Fox News host Greg Gutfeld, 60, stunned fans this week when he announced that he and his wife, Elena Moussa, 42, have welcomed a baby daughter together—weeks after he sparked major concern from viewers when he disappeared from the hit show “The Five.”

The longtime TV personality—who also hosts the late-night show “Gutfeld!”—shared the news in a statement on “The Five”: “It is with great joy that my wife Elena and I have welcomed a baby girl into the world.

Mira is healthy with a real set of lungs,” he continued, joking that his baby girl has his wife’s “beautiful eyes” and his “rock-hard abs.”

Gutfeld’s statement put an end to the weekslong speculation over his absence from Fox News, a controversy that his co-host Dana Perino commented on before sharing his message.

“This is going to be a great surprise for a lot of you,” she said. “You might have noticed that our friend Greg Gutfeld hasn’t been here for a couple of weeks, and it’s for a good reason. This is a statement that he sent me today. So I’m reading this as if I’m Greg.”

While Gutfeld kept the news of his wife’s pregnancy hidden from the public, it appears he may well have been preparing to expand his family for several months now—even investing in a plush (and very pricey) new home in Manhattan, NY, in July.

While Gutfeld kept the news of his wife’s pregnancy hidden from the public, it appears he may well have been preparing to expand his family for several months now—even investing in a plush (and very pricey) new home in Manhattan, NY, in July.

Property records reveal that the TV host purchased a $10.5 million loft in the upscale neighborhood of SoHo in July, making the deal via the LLC that he used in the purchase of his former New York home.

Located in a 1900s-era, six-story building, which recently underwent a luxury conversion by architect DXA Studio. The condo offers 3,560 square feet of living space.

The unit previously changed hands in 2021 for $8,550,000.

The pet-friendly building includes a retail space on the ground floor.

Whirlwind romance

Gutfeld and Moussa, who married in 2004, met in Portugal while he was an editor at Maxim UK and she was a photo editor for Maxim Russia.

Speaking to Bill Maher on the “Club Random” podcast, Gutfeld recalled their first meeting.

He knew from the start that the two of them were destined to end up together, he said.

“I met her and I go, ‘Oh, that’s my wife.’ I just knew it,” he said. “And then I spent three days in Portugal trying to talk to her.”

Clearly, he was successful because the pair were married just five months later. And now, 20 years later, they are welcoming a child together.

GREG GUTFELD: I’ve mastered the art of being selfish but becoming a parent has taught me this

GREG GUTFELD: I’ve mastered the art of being selfish but becoming a parent has taught me this

Fox News host Greg Gutfeld and the panel discuss parenthood on ‘Gutfeld!’

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!

So, I’m back. And true, I had a baby. I was out for a month and I have the chewed-up nipples to prove it. Eat your heart out, Mayor Pete. I guess that makes me qualified to run the Department of Transportation. Speaking of trans… any man who thinks putting on a dress in a wig makes you a woman, no way. I was there when that baby popped out, and no dude can do that. You might as well put on a diaper and claim you’re a baby or a president. But there are few things worse than someone in the media having a child. And not just because you have to imagine them having sex, but they act like they’re the first person to do it, like they just invented having children.

It’s funny. A lot of new parents just years ago were telling you that having kids was selfish. How dare you bring another mouth to feed among the starving billions? Then they have kids and suddenly their precious brat is the exception. They went from hating kids to having one that they can’t wait to transition. It amazes me more that some moms can be so pro-abortion. It’s like being a biological Benedict Arnold. Because these moms know that having kids is the best thing they’re ever going to do. Aside from ironing.

A SEXIST WOULD SAY!

Greg Gutfeld goes from 'King of Late Night' to ‘king of sleepless nights’

But rather than endure smears by their fellow diaper deniers for indulging the patriarchy, they cheer women to abort the one thing that gives them meaning in life. Besides watching this show, of course. So what’s the male equivalent? Well, imagine a guy winning a Bronze Star and saying it’s not worth it. Sorry, that’s the only thing he’s going to remember on his deathbed. Well, that and the orgy with the cast of The Facts of Life. Yeah, Charlotte Rae really knew how to party. And yeah, I’m comparing motherhood to war because it is.

Women put in a nine-month tour of duty and, at the end, are so full of hormones and exhaustion, it makes PTSD look like athlete’s foot. And for that reason, we should treat moms like conquering heroes. But the message from most libs? Don’t have kids. But if we do, it’s because our kids will be better than yours. Because in the media, we act like everything we do is of bigger importance. But do you think my Uncle Frank, a plumber, got to take a month off every time his wife pushed one out? Please. This guy had a plunger back in his hand three minutes after they cut the umbilical cord. Come to think of it, I think he brought the plunger to the birth, just in case.

‘Gutfeld!’ reads through this week's leftover jokes

So, I won’t brag. Seven billion people have gone through this. But if you’re shocked by me having a brat at 60, imagine how I feel. When my wife told me she was pregnant, mine was the first diaper she had to change. It’s not easy, but it’s not earth-shattering either. The lesson I’ve learned is how much I got to unlearn. Meaning, throughout my life, I’ve mastered the art of being selfish, and it’s helped my career. But a great career isn’t hard when you’re only about you. Although there are exceptions. But if you work single-mindedly for ten years, you can master any profession except maybe porn, because in five years you’ve already aged out.

Ask Trace Gallagher. He may be a silver fox, but you’re done once the carpet matches the drapes. So becoming a parent at my age is forcing me to learn things many of you learned in your 20s, 30s and 40s – that you have to think about someone else. And for me, that’s tough. My entire home has changed. Now there’s someone else sleeping in the bassinet. But a wise person told me this – once you have a kid, you can’t regret anything you did before that because to change the past would erase the possibility of that child. It may be why Alec Baldwin keeps having kids.

'Gutfeld!': The Times are a-changin'Video

It’s awesome. Suddenly I have no regrets after 60 years of bad behavior. So my message to you, men and women. If you feel regret over your past, have a kid. Yeah. Yeah. It’s easy. Almost anyone can do it. And really, kids practically take care of themselves. Right now, mine’s sitting in the car double-parked outside. Don’t worry. I rolled down the windows.

Rippled fingernails reveal secrets of possible disease

Manicures will cover any ripples or bumps on your nails, but shiny polish can’t hide the disease that might be hiding inside your body.

Your nails reflect your overall health and any abnormalities can suggest there’s a potential problem with your liver, lungs or heart.

Nail health is often a mirror of what’s happening inside our bodies and when changes occur, it may signal various health conditions or simply reflect normal aging processes.

Stripes on nails can be harmless, but according to the National Library of Medicine (NCBI), ridges on “nails may also provide an insight into more sinister systemic manifestations,” indicating underlying health issues.

In this article, we’ll explore the different types of stripes on your nails, what they might mean and when you should consider seeking medical advice.

Types of Nail Stripes

Vertical Stripes
Vertical stripes, or longitudinal striations, are common and typically run from the cuticle to the tip. They are often associated with aging, as nail ridges can become more prominent with age.

In some cases, they may reflect nutritional deficiencies, such as a lack of certain minerals or vitamins (vitamin B12, magnesium, or iron).

Vertical ridges are common with aging and are often harmless. However, if they appear suddenly or become more pronounced, it may be worth checking for conditions like anemia or thyroid issues.

Horizontal Stripes
Horizontal stripes or grooves may indicate more specific health concerns.

Also called Beau’s lines, these horizontal indentations can appear after physical trauma to the nail, or from serious illnesses or medical conditions, including malnutrition, uncontrolled diabetes, heart attacks or respiratory diseases.

The appearance of these ridges is often associated with temporary disruptions in nail growth caused by periods of intense stress or illness, as the body may temporarily slow down or halt nail growth.

The NCBI writes that if growth of the grooves is “abrupt, [it] indicates a sudden attack of disease.” And, when present on all 20 nails, it’s “usually the result of systemic disease such as mumps, pneumonia, coronary thrombosis, Kawasaki disease, syphilis, and hypoparathyroidism.”

White Stripes
White, parallel horizontal lines that do not indent the nail surface may indicate liver or kidney issues. These lines, called Muehrcke’s lines, tend to fade temporarily when the nail is pressed and often appear on multiple nails simultaneously.

A decrease in blood protein levels, particularly albumin, can also cause these white stripes, commonly seen in those with malnutrition or chronic liver disease.

If Muehrcke’s lines are visible on multiple nails, consult with a medical professional as it may be a sign of protein deficiencies or kidney/liver problems.

‘Poor diet’

For the majority of the population, ripples are normal and can be fixed with some buffing or a healthy lifestyle change.

A balanced diet that’s rich in protein, vitamins and minerals – biotin, vitamin E, iron and zinc – can improve nail appearance over time.

Dr. Sara Norris, a naturopathic doctor based in Los Angeles, tells Healthline that “nail health is most often an indicator of poor nutritional intake or poor digestion.”

“Brittle, weak, and peeling nails are the most common concerns I see in my practice, and these symptoms are more often the result of a poor diet than of systemic disease,” she explains.

Your nails are offering you some valuable insights into your health, ranging from harmless signs of aging to potential indicators of underlying health conditions. Most causes are easy to treat but they’re a good indicator of poor health so pay attention to what they’re telling you!

My Ex-husband Returned 10 Years After Leaving, but Not for the Reason I Expected

Looking at Josh, I didn’t recognize the man I’d once fallen in love with. Time had aged him, and guilt was written all over his face. At that point, I had every right to slam the door in his face, but I didn’t do it for Chloe’s sake. I knew she needed her dad in her life.

Being a single mom isn’t easy, but raising my daughter, Chloe, has been the most rewarding challenge of my life.

For 10 years, it’s just been the two of us. There were moments I struggled, but every time Chloe smiled or reached a milestone, I knew it was all worth it.

But things weren’t always this way.

Years ago, I was married to Josh. We met through a mutual friend, and I was immediately drawn to his charm and wit. Our friendship turned into love almost effortlessly.

Back then, I noticed a few things about Josh that I chose to ignore.

For one, he was always cautious about money. I brushed it off as him being practical. In hindsight, those were red flags I should have paid attention to.

When Josh proposed, I didn’t think twice. We got married in an intimate ceremony, and it was just perfect. But a few months into our marriage, cracks began to show.

Josh’s frugality became more pronounced.

He’d question every purchase, from groceries to basic household items. “Do we really need this?” he’d ask.

It wasn’t long before I found myself managing most of our expenses, which led to tension. So, one evening, I decided to address it.

“Josh,” I said gently, “why am I covering most of the bills lately? We’re supposed to be a team.”

He sighed and apologized.

“I love you, Lauren, and I promise I’ll step up. I just want to make sure we’re being responsible.”

His words reassured me, but looking back, I realize they were just that. Words.

When I became pregnant, Josh surprised me. He seemed genuinely excited and eager to prepare for the baby’s arrival.

He bought furniture for the nursery, attended prenatal classes with me, and even treated me to a spa day. After Chloe was born, his enthusiasm continued. He doted on her, buying toys and clothes and making sure we had what we needed.

Back then, I felt super grateful. But as time went on, the old Josh resurfaced. He began complaining about the cost of diapers and formula, grumbling that we were spending too much on Chloe.

When I mentioned we needed a new car seat because Chloe had outgrown hers, he snapped, “Do you know how much those things cost?”

Arguments about money became a regular occurrence. He was struggling at work, but he wouldn’t talk to me about it. Then came the evening that changed everything.

I’d just returned from work when I found a note on the kitchen table.

I can’t do this anymore. I’m sorry.

Next to it were divorce papers, already signed. Josh had left without saying anything. No explanation. No goodbye.

I was left to pick up the pieces for myself and our two-year-old daughter, Chloe. At the time, I thought I’d never recover.

The early days after Josh left were full of tears. But my daughter didn’t leave me much time to dwell on my pain. She needed me, and I had to be strong for her.

I took on a second job to make ends meet, often skipping meals or wearing the same old clothes so I could provide everything she needed.

As the years passed, Chloe and I built a close bond. But explaining Josh’s absence was never easy.

When she was younger, I’d tell her, “Daddy had to leave because he was going through things I couldn’t understand.”

However, when Chloe turned 12, she started asking harder questions. “Do you think he regrets it, Mom?” she asked one evening as we sat together on the couch.

“I don’t know, sweetie,” I replied. “But I do know that his choices don’t define you or me.”

At that point, I thought we’d moved past the pain Josh had caused. I thought we were finally at peace, unaware that the past would literally come knocking at my door.

It happened on a quiet Saturday afternoon.

Chloe was at a friend’s house, and I was finally catching up on some much-needed cleaning when the doorbell rang.

I expected it to be a package or maybe a neighbor. But when I opened the door, I froze.

It was Josh.

He looked different. He was thinner and older, and his once vibrant eyes looked so dull.

“Hi, Lauren,” he said in a trembling voice.

I stared at him in shock. I wanted to slam the door in his face or scream at him for what he’d done and demand answers.

But instead, I asked, “What are you doing here?”

He exhaled deeply. “I, uh… Can I come in? I need to talk to you.”

Against my better judgment, I stepped aside and let him in. Not because I wanted to, but because I couldn’t ignore the possibility that Chloe deserved answers, even if I didn’t want to hear them myself.

Chloe came home about an hour later.

She walked into the living room, spotted Josh, and froze mid-step. Then, her gaze shifted to me as she searched for an explanation.

“Is that Dad?” she asked.

I’d shown Chloe photos of him, and he looked way older than the image of him she had built in her mind.

“Yes,” I nodded. “That’s your father.”

“Hi, Chloe,” Josh said as he stood up awkwardly.

For a long moment, there was silence. Then Chloe, always so composed, asked the most important question.

“Why are you here?”

Josh’s shoulders slumped, and he lowered himself into a chair.

“Because I made a mistake, Chloe,” he whispered. “I left when I shouldn’t have. And now I’m here to make things right.”

“And how do I know you won’t leave again?” Chloe asked.

Josh started coughing before he could answer. “You don’t,” he finally replied. “But I’ll spend every moment I have proving to you that I won’t.”

I knew I couldn’t trust Josh, but I decided to give him a chance for my daughter’s sake.

“You can stay for dinner,” I said finally. “But this doesn’t mean anything. We’re taking this one step at a time.”

Josh nodded gratefully, clearing his throat. “Thank you, Lauren. I, uh, I promise, I just want to reconnect with Chloe.”

That night, I lay awake, grappling with the decision to let him back into our lives. I told myself I was doing it for Chloe, but a part of me knew I needed answers, too.

A few weeks after his return, things were still tense. He visited daily and bonded with Chloe while helping her with homework. They even cooked dinner together sometimes.

I noticed she was beginning to warm up to him, though her guard was still up.

One evening, after they had finished a school project, Chloe turned to me with a question. “Mom, do you think Dad will disappear again?”

Honestly, I didn’t have an answer.

“I don’t know, sweetheart. But I promise, no matter what happens, I’ll be here.”

That’s when my gaze landed on Josh, who’d overheard the conversation. He looked devastated but didn’t say anything.

Later that night, I confronted him before he left.

“What are you really doing here, Josh?” I asked. “Why now, after all this time?”

For illustration purposes only | Source: Midjourney

His face clouded with guilt, but he deflected.

“I just… I saw her picture in the paper when she won the Academic Excellence Award. It hit me how much I’ve missed, Lauren.”

“I don’t believe it. You’re not telling me everything,” I pressed. “There’s more, isn’t there?”

Josh didn’t answer, but his health was already raising more questions than he could dodge.

I’d noticed him cough several times ever since he’d returned to our lives, and it hadn’t gotten any better. He also had this fatigue that didn’t seem to improve.

For illustration purposes only | Source: Midjourney

For illustration purposes only | Source: Midjourney

Whenever I asked him about it, he just said he was “exhausted from traveling,” but I wasn’t convinced.

And then came the evening his secret came to light.

Josh was helping Chloe with her homework in the living room when I heard a loud thud. I rushed in to find him collapsed on the floor.

“What happened to him, Mom?” Chloe asked, crying.

“Josh?” I shouted, trying to shake him awake. “Josh? What happened?”

He didn’t respond and was trying hard to catch his breath. I knew we needed help, so I immediately called an ambulance and rushed him to the hospital.

I didn’t even have time to process what was happening before a doctor approached me.

“We’ve stabilized him,” he said. “But he needs to stay overnight for observation.”

I was led into the room where Josh lay, pale and fragile, hooked up to machines that beeped softly in the background.

When he saw me, he weakly motioned for me to come closer.

“I have to tell you something,” he whispered.

“What is it, Josh?” I asked as I sat beside him.

“I have cancer, Lauren. Late-stage. The doctors say I don’t have much time.”

“Cancer?” I repeated. “Why didn’t you tell us?”

“I didn’t want you and Chloe to think I came back because I needed something,” he said. “I didn’t want to burden you more than I already have.”

“You… you left us, Josh,” I managed to speak, staring into his eyes. “You left me to raise Chloe alone, and now you’re back because you’re dying? Do you have any idea what we’ve been through?”

He winced at my words but didn’t look away.

“I know I hurt you, Lauren,” he whispered. “But back then, I thought leaving was the right thing to do. I felt like a failure. As a husband. As a father… I couldn’t provide for you the way you deserved. My anxiety convinced me that you were better off without me. After all, our arguments never seemed to end.”

“Better off?” I snapped as tears streamed down my cheeks. “Chloe grew up wondering why her dad didn’t want her. We could’ve worked everything out.”

“I know,” he said, his voice breaking. “I wanted to come back so many times, but I was ashamed. And then… this illness forced me to confront the truth. I couldn’t leave this world without making things right with Chloe.”

I didn’t know what to say after that. We stayed silent for a few minutes as I processed my feelings.

“What am I supposed to tell Chloe now?” I finally asked.

“Tell her I came back because I love her,” he cried.

That evening, I sat down with Chloe and gently explained what was happening. She was hurt, confused, and angry all at once.

“Why did he have to wait until now? Why couldn’t he come back when I was little?”

“I don’t know, sweetie. People don’t always make the right choices, even when they mean well.”

My little girl was angry, but she didn’t let it control her decision. She understood her father was in a difficult position, so she agreed to forgive him.

She wanted to spend what time they had left together.

In the following weeks, Josh made every effort to bond with Chloe. He played board games with her, cheered her on at her soccer matches, and even helped her bake cookies for a school fundraiser.

One Saturday afternoon, Chloe found Josh writing at the dining table.

“What are you doing, Dad?” she asked curiously.

“I’m writing letters for you,” he smiled. “For all the big moments in your life. Your graduation, your wedding, or just a day when you need a reminder of how much I love you.”

“But you don’t need to leave me notes,” Chloe said as she sat beside him. “I just want you to stay.”

Those words broke my heart.

Unfortunately, Josh passed away a few months later. He was happy, knowing he was surrounded by the two most important people in his life during the last moments of his life.

After his death, Chloe clung to the letters he left behind, often reading them aloud.

One evening, she turned to me and said, “I know he wasn’t perfect, but he loved me in the end. That’s what I’ll hold on to.”

I smiled through my tears and pulled her into a hug. I felt incredibly proud of the compassion and resilience Chloe had inherited.

As for me, I’ve also forgiven my ex-husband, and it has given me the peace to move forward in my life. I’m grateful fate gave me a chance to answer the questions that had been worrying me for ten years.

I Attended the Opening of Our High School Time Capsule and Uncovered the Truth About What Happened 15 Years Ago

We stood in the schoolyard under the dark sky, our class gathered in secret. I felt nervous, hoping no one would find us.

“Dig faster!” Jess, my best friend, ordered, her voice sharp and impatient.

“If you’re so clever, do it yourself!” Malcolm snapped, his shovel pausing mid-air.

Jess rolled her eyes. “I have a manicure and white sneakers. You know I can’t. These boys are useless,” she added, glancing at me.

I smiled faintly, trying to hide my unease. My eyes stayed on Brian, who stood a few steps away, looking at the ground.

He was my boyfriend, but that night, something felt wrong. He hadn’t said a word to me. I’d tried to ask him what was going on, but every time, he turned away.

“Done!” Malcolm yelled, pulling me from my thoughts.

The capsule was open. Everyone tossed in little keepsakes and letters. I held the locket Brian had won for me at the fair.

It was special to me, but now it felt heavy. I dropped it in and walked back to Brian.

“Why aren’t you talking to me?” I asked, stepping closer to Brian. He stayed quiet, his eyes focused somewhere far away. “Brian, what’s wrong? Can you just explain what’s going on?” I pressed, my voice shaking.

Without a word, he turned and started to walk away.

“You promised to love me my whole life! Are those words meaningless now?!” I shouted after him, my voice breaking.

Brian stopped and turned around. His eyes met mine, cold and distant. “You ruined everything yourself,” he said, his tone flat. Then he turned away again.

15 years later…

I sat in front of my laptop, staring at Malcolm’s email. It felt strange hearing from him after all this time.

The email was simple, reminding me that in two days, we were supposed to dig up the time capsule we’d buried as teenagers.

I tried to remember what I had put inside but couldn’t. That night had left a scar.

I’d lost Brian, my first love, in a way I never fully understood. Then Jess, my best friend, had betrayed me, leaving me feeling utterly alone.

Maybe it was time to face the past. My fingers hovered over the keyboard before I finally typed, “I’ll be there.”

I hadn’t been back to my hometown in what felt like a lifetime. After I left for college, my parents moved away, and I never found a reason to return.

But there I was. As I approached my old school, unease crept over me. The building looked smaller than I remembered, but the memories were still vivid.

I was about to face people who had once been a huge part of my life.

I greeted a few classmates who had already gathered, including Malcolm. He smiled warmly.

There was still no sign of Jess or Brian. We decided to start searching for the capsule without them. None of us could remember the exact spot, so the digging dragged on.

Then, from the corner of my eye, I saw Jess and Brian walking toward us. My heart clenched before I could stop it. Were they still together?

I didn’t expect to care after all these years, but I did. When Brian moved closer, my pulse quickened.

He didn’t look at me, though, brushing past as if I weren’t there. Jess, on the other hand, greeted me with a smile, acting like nothing had ever happened. It stung.

Finally, someone shouted, “I found it!” Everyone rushed over, excitement buzzing.

The capsule was opened, and memories spilled out. I reached for my locket, the one Brian had won for me.

As I held it, my eyes caught something else—a letter with my name on it. My hands trembled as I picked it up and stepped aside.

Opening the envelope, I immediately recognized the handwriting. It was Jess’s.

Hey, Amelia,

If you’re reading this, it means 15 years have passed, and maybe this letter will make things clearer, though I doubt it will make anything better.

I don’t even know how to start explaining why I did what I did. The truth is, I don’t have a good reason. I don’t even feel guilty right now, not entirely.

I know why Brian stopped talking to you. It was me. I started a rumor about you and Malcolm.

I even forged messages to make it seem true. It was cruel, I know, but I wanted Brian. I’m not asking for your forgiveness. I just hope you understand.

Your not-so-great friend,

Jess

My hands shook as I read the letter, each word hitting me like a punch. I didn’t notice Brian standing beside me until he spoke.

“Amelia, I saw the locket in the capsule. I… I don’t know why, but seeing you today—” he started, his voice soft and uncertain.

I looked up, spotting Jess in the crowd. Anger replaced my tears. “Sorry, Brian. But I need to talk to your girlfriend,” I said, my tone sharp.

“She’s not my—” Brian called after me, but I didn’t care to hear the rest.

I reached Jess, holding up the letter. “Care to explain this?” I asked.

Jess hesitated, then sighed. She took my hand, surprising me, and led me toward the school bleachers.

Once we sat, Jess took a deep breath, her shoulders slumping. “I’m sorry,” she said.

“Sorry isn’t enough,” I replied, my tone sharper than I intended. “Why did you do it?”

“Why?” She gave a bitter laugh. “Don’t you get it? I wanted to be you.”

I stared at her, confused. “What? That’s ridiculous,” I said, laughing out of disbelief.

“You don’t understand,” Jess said, her eyes meeting mine. “You were perfect, Amelia. You had it all. You were smart, you had great parents, and you had Brian. I wanted something of yours, anything. I didn’t even like Brian that much.”

“You didn’t like him? Then why—?” I started, but she cut me off.

“I wanted to take something from you. It made me feel better, like I mattered,” Jess admitted. “We broke up three weeks later. It wasn’t even worth it.”

I shook my head. “I thought you two were still together,” I said.

“No,” she said, wiping her face. “He just gave me a ride today. That’s it.”

I looked down at my hands, my voice softening. “I loved Brian. I thought I’d marry him.”

Jess nodded. “He loved you, Amelia. That’s why he reacted the way he did. The rumor about you and Malcolm—I made it up. I didn’t care what happened as long as he doubted you.”

I shook my head again. “Malcolm is married now. To his husband,” I said firmly.

Jess let out a shaky laugh. “No one knew that back then.” She paused, her voice quiet. “I don’t know how to make up for it. I don’t think I can.”

“You can’t change what happened,” I said.

Jess hesitated. “I’ve missed you.”

I looked at her. “I’ve missed you too,” I admitted after a moment.

We sat there for a while, not saying much. Then Jess nudged me, pointing toward the field. “He’s not looking for me,” she said.

I sighed and climbed down the bleachers, my steps slow and uncertain. When I reached Brian, my mind raced, and I almost forgot how to speak. Before I could say anything, he started.

“Amelia,” he said, his voice steady. “First, I want to make one thing clear. Jess isn’t my girlfriend. I haven’t seen her since high school.”

I nodded. “I know,” I said, my voice quieter than intended.

Brian glanced at me, then down at the ground. “The locket you put in the capsule—is it the one I gave you?” he asked.

“Yes,” I said. “It’s funny. Back then, I thought that by the time we dug it up, we’d already be married. I imagined it being this sweet moment.” I paused, my chest tightening. “But…”

“I was an idiot,” Brian said, cutting me off. “I didn’t give you a chance to explain. I let myself believe something that wasn’t true.”

“We were kids,” I said, shrugging.

“But we’re not kids now,” he said, his tone softening. “Amelia, I’ve thought about you for years. I told myself it didn’t matter anymore, but seeing you today, I realized I was wrong. I felt something I haven’t felt in a long time.”

“It doesn’t matter, Brian,” I said quickly. “I live in New York now.”

“So do I,” he said, a small smile forming. “And I’d like to take you on a date.”

I hesitated. “I don’t know—”

“Just one date,” he said, looking at me earnestly.

I sighed, then smiled a little. “Fine. But only if you win me a new locket. This one’s turned black,” I said, holding it up.

Brian laughed, his face lighting up. “It’s a deal.”

An Old Man Came to the Cinema Alone Every Day for Years, Buying Two Tickets and Waiting—One Day, Someone Finally Sat Beside Him

The old city cinema wasn’t just a job for Emma. It was a place where the hum of the projector could momentarily erase the worries of the world.

Every Monday morning, Edward appeared, his arrival as steady as the sunrise. He wasn’t like the regulars who rushed in, fumbling for coins or their tickets.

Edward carried himself with quiet dignity, his tall, lean frame draped in a neatly buttoned gray coat. His silver hair, combed back with precision, caught the light as he approached the counter. He always asked for the same thing.

“Two tickets for the morning movie.”

And yet, he always came alone.

Why two tickets? Who are they for?

“Two tickets again?” Sarah teased from behind her, smirking as she rang up another customer. “Maybe it’s for some lost love. Like an old-fashioned romance, you know?”

“Or maybe a ghost,” another coworker, Steve, chimed in, snickering. “He’s probably married to one.”

Emma didn’t laugh. There was something about Edward that made their jokes feel wrong.

She thought about asking him, even rehearsing a few lines in her head. But it wasn’t her place.

***

The following Monday was different. It was her day off, and as Emma lay in bed, an idea began to form.

What if she followed him? It isn’t spying. It’s… curiosity. It was almost Christmas, after all—a season of wonder.

Edward was already seated when she entered the dimly lit theater, his figure outlined by the soft glow of the screen. He seemed lost in thought. His eyes flickered toward her, and a faint smile crossed his lips.

“You’re not working today,” he observed.

She slid into the seat next to him. “I thought you might need company. I’ve seen you here so many times.”

He chuckled softly, though the sound held a trace of sadness. “It’s not about the movies.”

“Then what is it?” she asked, unable to hide the curiosity in her tone.

Edward leaned back in his seat, his hands folded neatly in his lap. For a moment, he seemed hesitant, as though deciding whether or not to trust her with what he was about to say.

Then he spoke.

“Years ago,” he began, his gaze fixed on the screen, “there was a woman who worked here. Her name was Evelyn.”

Emma remained quiet, listening intently.

“She was beautiful,” he continued, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “Not in the way that turns heads, but in the way that lingers. Like a melody that you can’t forget. She’d been working here. We met here, and then our story began.”

She pictured it as he spoke.

“One day, I invited her to a morning show on her day off,” Edward said. “She agreed. But she never came.”

“What happened?” Emma whispered, leaning closer.

“I found out later that she’d been fired,” he said, his tone heavier now. “When I asked the manager for her contact information, he refused and told me never to come back. I didn’t understand why. She was just… gone.”

Edward exhaled, his gaze falling to the empty seat beside him. “I tried to move on. I got married and lived a quiet life. But after my wife passed, I started coming here again, hoping… just hoping… I don’t know.”

Emma swallowed hard. “She was the love of your life.”

“She was. And she still is.”

“What do you remember about her?” she asked.

“Only her name,” Edward admitted. “Evelyn.”

“I’ll help you find her.”

***

Getting ready to face her father felt like preparing for a battle she wasn’t sure she could win. Her dad, Thomas, was the owner of the cinema, and the one person who would be able to tell them about an old employee.

He was also a man who appreciated order and professionalism—traits he lived by and judged others for.

Edward waited patiently by the door, his hat in hand, looking both apprehensive and composed. “You’re sure he’ll talk to us?”

“No,” Emma admitted, pulling on her coat. “But we have to try.”

On the way to the cinema office, she found herself opening up to Edward, perhaps to calm her nerves.

“My mom had Alzheimer’s,” she explained, gripping the steering wheel a little tighter. “It started while she was pregnant with me. Her memory was… unpredictable. Some days, she’d know exactly who I was. Other days, she’d look at me like I was a stranger.”

Edward nodded solemnly. “That must have been hard for you.”

“It was,” she said. “Especially because my Dad, I call him Thomas, decided to put her in a care facility. I understand why, but over time, he just stopped visiting her. And when my grandmother passed, all the responsibility fell on me. He helped financially, but he was… absent. That’s the best way to describe him. Distant. Always distant.”

Edward didn’t say much, but his presence was grounding. Emma hesitated before opening the door to Thomas’s office.

Inside, he sat at his desk, papers meticulously arranged in front of him. His sharp, calculating eyes flicked to her, then to Edward. “What’s this about?”

“Hi, Dad. This is my friend, Edward,” she stammered.

“Go on.” His face didn’t change.

“I need to ask you about someone who worked here years ago. A woman named Evelyn.”

He froze for a fraction of a second, then leaned back in his chair. “I don’t discuss former employees.”

“You need to make an exception,” she pressed. “Edward has been searching for Evelyn for decades. We deserve answers.”

Thomas’s jaw tightened. “Her name wasn’t Evelyn.”

“What?” Emma blinked.

“She called herself Evelyn, but her real name was Margaret,” he admitted, his words cutting through the air. “Your mother. She made up that name because she was having an affair with him,” he gestured toward Edward, “and thought I wouldn’t find out.”

The room went silent.

Edward’s face paled. “Margaret?”

“She was pregnant when I found out,” Thomas continued bitterly. “With you, as it turned out.” He looked at Emma then, his cold expression faltering for the first time. “I thought cutting her off from him would make her rely on me. But it didn’t. And when you were born… I knew I wasn’t your father.”

Emma’s head spun. “You knew all this time?”

“I provided for her,” he said, avoiding my gaze. “For you. But I couldn’t stay.”

Edward’s voice broke the silence. “Margaret is Evelyn?”

“She was Margaret to me,” Thomas replied stiffly. “But clearly, she wanted to be someone else with you.”

Edward sank into a chair, his hands trembling. “She never told me. I… I had no idea.”

Emma looked between them, her heart pounding. Thomas was not her father at all.

“I think,” she said, “we need to visit her. Together.” She glanced at Edward, then turned to Thomas, holding his gaze. “All three of us. Christmas is a time for forgiveness, and if there’s ever a moment to set things right, it’s now.”

For a moment, she thought Thomas would scoff or dismiss the idea altogether. But to her surprise, he stood, reached for his overcoat, and nodded.

They drove to the care facility in silence. When they arrived, the holiday wreath on the door seemed oddly out of place against the surroundings.

Emma’s mother was in her usual spot by the lounge window. She was staring outside, her face distant. Her hands rested motionless in her lap even as they approached.

“Mom,” Emma called gently, but there was no reaction.

Edward stepped forward, his movements slow and deliberate. He looked at her.

“Evelyn.”

The change was instant. Her head turned toward him, her eyes sharpening with recognition. Slowly, she rose to her feet.

“Edward?” she whispered.

He nodded. “It’s me, Evelyn. It’s me.”

Tears welled in her eyes, and she took a shaky step forward. “You’re here.”

“I never stopped waiting,” he replied, his own eyes glistening.

Emma’s heart swelled with emotions she couldn’t fully name as she watched them. This was their moment, but it was also hers.

She turned to Thomas, who stood a few steps behind, his hands in his pockets. His usual sternness was gone, replaced by something almost vulnerable.

“You did the right thing coming here,” she said softly.

He gave a slight nod but said nothing. His gaze lingered on Emma’s mother and Edward, and for the first time, she saw something that looked like regret.

The snow began to fall gently outside, blanketing the world in a soft, peaceful hush.

“Let’s not end it here,” Emma said, breaking the quiet. “It’s Christmas. How about we go get some hot cocoa and watch a holiday movie? Together.”

Edward’s eyes lit up. Thomas hesitated.

“That sounds… nice,” he said gruffly, his voice softer than she’d ever heard.

That day, four lives intertwined in ways none of them had imagined. Together, they walked into a story that had taken years to find its ending—and its new beginning.

Jυlia Roberts’ decisioп to step away from her eпdorsemeпts aпd leave the Uпited States is υпdoυbtedly a bold move that has left maпy woпderiпg what’s пext for the actress.

Thoυgh her fiпaпcial loss is sigпificaпt, it is her persoпal joυrпey that is captυriпg the most atteпtioп. After years of beiпg oпe of the most visible aпd beloved figυres iп Hollywood, Roberts is choosiпg to prioritize her owп happiпess aпd seпse of pυrpose.

Why Viggo Mortensen says he may not be entirely straight

Viggo Mortensen has spent decades captivating audiences with his intense performances, rugged charm, and fearless approach to acting. But beyond the roles he plays, there’s another side to the Hollywood star that has sparked curiosity.

Over the years, Mortensen has been photographed passionately kissing a certain man in his life — again and again. These moments have led to whispers, speculation, and one burning question: Is there more to the story?

Now, the actor himself is finally addressing the topic. And what he has to say may surprise you…

Viggo Mortensen, 66, needs no introduction — he’s been nominated for an Academy Award three times and won hearts worldwide as Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. But beyond the sword fights and Hollywood glamour, there’s another side to Mortensen — one that involves a passionate, decades-long connection with a very special man in his life.

Born in Watertown, New York, to a Danish father and an American mother, Mortensen’s childhood was anything but ordinary. He lived in Venezuela, Denmark, and Argentina before settling back in the U.S. at age 11. His path to stardom wasn’t straightforward —after graduating from St. Lawrence University, he took odd jobs in Denmark, driving trucks and selling flowers. Acting wasn’t even on the horizon.

His first scenes in his first movie was deleted

But in 1982, at 24, Mortensen returned to the U.S. to pursue his Hollywood dreams. His first film appearance in The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985) never saw the light of day — his scenes were cut. Yet, he persisted, slowly carving out a name for himself.

Undeterred, he steadily built a solid career, landing roles in various films without quite reaching superstar status. That all changed in 1997 when he starred alongside Demi Moore in G.I. Jane.

Shutterstock

With a hefty $50 million budget, G.I. Jane was Mortensen’s most high-profile project at the time. While the film itself struggled at the box office and Demi Moore faced heavy criticism for her performance, Mortensen emerged largely unscathed.

In fact, his portrayal of Command Master Chief John James ‘Jack’ Urgayle was widely praised.

After the G.I. Jane debacle, not many would have predicted that Viggo Mortensen would go on to create one of the most iconic characters in movie history. But just a few years later, he did exactly that — stepping into the role of Aragorn in The Lord of the Rings trilogy and making cinematic magic.

The best swordsman in Lord of the Rings

Mortensen wasn’t just playing a warrior — he became one. The film’s sword master even called him ”the best swordsman I’ve ever trained.” In fact, Mortensen was so committed to the role that he performed most of his own stunts, even when it meant getting injured. (Yes, those two broken toes? All part of the job.)

And his love for horses? That wasn’t just acting — he did all his own riding stunts in Hidalgo (2004) too.

According to the Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Special Extended Edition DVD, Mortensen was actually a last-minute replacement for Stuart Townsend. He almost didn’t take the role — until his son, a huge J.R.R. Tolkien fan, convinced him to say yes.

And he got so into character that director Peter Jackson once called him ”Aragorn” for over half an hour… and Mortensen never even noticed. Now that’s dedication!

A love story in Hollywood

While Mortensen’s on-screen presence is legendary, it’s his real-life chemistry with Canadian director David Cronenberg that has fascinated fans for years.

The two first met at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, where Mortensen was celebrating The Lord of the Rings. It was instant magic and they vowed to work together one day.

That day came with A History of Violence (2005). Initially unimpressed with the script, Mortensen only agreed to the project after meeting with Cronenberg.

Toni Anne Barson/WireImage

The film was a smash hit, hailed as one of the best of the decade. Their professional bond deepened. Mortensen declared, “I don’t think I’ve ever felt more like I was on the same wavelength with a director as I am with David.”

Their connection wasn’t just artistic — it was deeply personal. At a press event in 2006, fresh off their cinematic triumph, the two men shared a lingering, affectionate kiss in front of flashing cameras. It was a moment that spoke volumes.

”My kind of actor”

Their collaborations continued — Eastern Promises (2007), A Dangerous Method (2011) — each film strengthening their unique connection.

”Viggo’s my kind of actor,” Cronenberg said, explaining that Mortensen had the rare ability to blend the presence of a leading man with the depth and versatility of a character actor.

In 2014, the duo took it a step further. At the Canadian Screen Awards, Mortensen presented Cronenberg with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

He stood on stage, full of admiration, calling him “the finest director and the sanest man I know.” Then, right there, in front of an audience of Hollywood elites, he leaned in and kissed him again.

The moment was electric, a testament to their enduring bond. Mortensen, never one to hold back, used the opportunity to criticize the film industry for overlooking Cronenberg’s genius. Despite a four-decade career as a director, the Academy Awards never once recognized Cronenberg with a nomination.

“Mainstream movie business people, much as they might praise him from time to time, seem very reluctant to reward him officially. I can understand that because David basically is not one of them,” Mortensen said.

Is Viggo Mortensen gay?

With a relationship as affectionate and openly intimate as theirs, it’s no wonder that Mortensen has faced speculation about his sexuality. In a candid interview, he addressed the topic with his signature nonchalance: “People ask if I’m gay or straight. I guess you could say I’m not entirely straight.”

Mortensen got the question in connection with the movie Falling, which Viggo Mortensen both wrote and stars in. There, he portrays a gay man (John) who ends up caring for his racist and homophobic father.

The Lord of the Rings star was asked to respond to criticism about whether it was appropriate for him, a man who appears to be heterosexual, to play the role of John.

He replied, ”How do you know what my life is? You’re assuming that I’m completely straight. Maybe I am, maybe I’m not. And it’s frankly none of your business.”

“I want my movie to work, and I want the character of John to be effective. If I didn’t think it was a good idea I wouldn’t do it.”

Inside their professional relationship

Interestingly, David Cronenberg also has a small role in the movie Falling. The roles were actually reversed this time.

While filming Cronenberg’s scene as a proctologist, Viggo noticed that Cronenberg kept moving his gloved hand closer to the camera lens. When Viggo pointed out that this was creating an exaggerated perspective, making the hand appear unnaturally large, Cronenberg responded, “Yes, I’m quite aware of that.”

For Mortensen, love isn’t about labels — it’s about connection. And his connection with David Cronenberg? Undeniably one of the most passionate, professional and visually striking friendships Hollywood has ever seen.

“We are professionals, unbelievable as it seems, so it means  that we can say no to each other. If I offered Viggo a role, and he  really feels he’s not right for or doesn’t connect with it, he has to be  able to say no, and I am not going to be shattered and think he’s not  my friend anymore. And the reverse is true. If Viggo had a project or a  script that he wanted me to direct, I would have to say no if I really  didn’t want to do it. So there’s that respect and that professionalism  despite the tomfoolery that we enjoy,” Cronenberg says.

Viggo Mortensen girlfriend

When it comes to Viggo Mortensen’s love life, there are a few things we know:

He met singer Exene Cervenka in 1986 while working on the comedy Salvation!, and they tied the knot in 1987. A year later, they welcomed their son, Henry, who would later play Viggo’s on-screen son in Crimson Tide (1995).

Interestingly, Viggo also cast Henry in a small role in Falling. Henry impressed his father during a script read-through by showing off a perfect upstate New York accent. He even shaved his long hair and grew a mustache to better resemble a 1977 state trooper.

Viggo Mortensen and Exene Cervenka parted ways in 1992 and officially divorced in 1997. Since 2009, Viggo has been in a relationship with Spanish actress Ariadna Gil.

David Cronenberg, now 81, first married Margaret Hindson in 1972. Their seven-year marriage ended in 1979 due to personal and professional differences. They had one daughter together, Cassandra Cronenberg. His second wife was film editor Carolyn Zeifman, whom he was married to from 1979 until her passing in 2017.

Young woman spends $120k to transform into “Dragon Girl”

If you ask me, one of the biggest perks of being an adult is that you can – generally speaking – do whatever you like, when you like.

This includes dressing yourself in whatever way you see fit, fixing your hair how you want it, and having the final say on how you present yourself to the world.

It’s a liberty we all benefit from; all enjoy. Yet few among us take our creativity to the same level as Amber Luke, a twenty-something-year-old from Australia who has the unusual goal of covering her entire body with tattoos.

As per reports, Amber’s ink journey began when she was 16, and her fascination with coloring her body has becoming a core component in her life.

Over the years, Amber claims to have spent an eye-watering $120,000 transforming herself into what she labels the “Dragon Girl.”

And it hasn’t been a smooth process. Far from it, in fact: a few years back, when she tattooed her eyeballs, things almost ended in disaster.

Unfortunately, my artist went too deep into my eyeball. I was blind for three weeks. That was pretty brutal,” she recalled.

Though once Amber looked like the typical blonde girl-next-door, she’s experimented with body modification so much that today she’s virtually unrecognizable

As well as tattooing her eyeballs (and just about every inch of exposed skin she has) she also underwent a procedure to give herself a forked tongue.

According to the Daily Mai, the Brisbane, Australia resident has dropped $120,000 on body modifications, including $50,000 on around 600 tattoos and $70,000 on surgical procedures.

ance may be startling to some, but Amber insists that her transformation has played a big role in saving her from a life of depression and possible suicide.

The ‘Dragon Girl’ explained: “I was so catatonically depressed, suicidal and was a walking dead girl. I was numb. I hated myself majority of the time – that hatred ran deep. It tormented me. Now, I’ve totally transformed myself into someone I’m proud of being. I’m a strong woman who knows exactly what she wants and who she is.”

A few years ago, Amber posted a selection of photos showing how she looked before she began modifying her body… and it’s safe to say the results are eye-opening.

Amber said she received criticism after getting her first tattoo, but that hasn’t stopped her chasing her goal of expressing herself through body art. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but as long as she’s happy and comfortable in her own skin, that’s what matters most!

What is this great innovation benefiting our daily lives?

The internet has been left baffled over this odd object, which turns out to be a shoe horn!

Long taken for granted, the shoe horn is a simple but effective tool that helps make life just that little bit easier.

Keep reading to find out more about this humble invention!

History of shoe horns

Shoe horns boast a rich history that stretches back to the 15th century. Initially, artisans crafted these tools from readily available materials such as animal horn, bone, or wood.

Their primary purpose was to assist individuals in sliding their feet into shoes without damaging the shoe’s heel. The craftsmanship of early shoe horns reflected the practical needs of the time, with durability and functionality being paramount.

As centuries passed, the design and materials of shoe horns evolved. The industrial revolution brought about the use of metals like brass and steel, which added strength and longevity to the tool. The 19th and 20th centuries saw the introduction of plastic and other synthetic materials, making shoe horns more accessible and affordable. In some cases, shoe horns were even made from silver and adorned with intricate designs, transforming a simple tool into a piece of art. These decorative shoe horns were often used by the upper classes and reflected the aesthetic tastes and technological advancements of their eras.

Usage of Shoe Horns

The primary function of a shoe horn is to make it easier to put on shoes without bending or crushing the heel counter. By using a shoe horn, one can effortlessly slide their foot into the shoe, thereby maintaining the shoe’s shape and extending its life. This tool is particularly beneficial for shoes with a stiff or narrow opening, where inserting the foot can be challenging.

Shoe horns come in various designs to cater to different needs. Short, hand-held versions are compact and easy to carry, making them convenient for travel. Long-handled models, on the other hand, are especially useful for individuals with limited mobility or those who have difficulty bending down. These longer versions allow users to put on their shoes while standing, providing both comfort and convenience.

Legacy of Shoe Horns

The legacy of shoe horns extends well beyond their practical applications. They are a testament to the blend of functionality and craftsmanship that characterized many everyday objects of the past. Antique shoe horns, in particular, showcase intricate designs and high-quality materials, making them prized possessions for collectors and enthusiasts. These vintage pieces often feature elaborate engravings, ornate handles, and the use of precious metals, highlighting the artistry involved in their creation.

In the modern era, many people still use shoe horns daily, while others collect vintage shoe horns, cherishing them as historical artifacts that offer a glimpse into past lifestyles and craftsmanship.

Centuries-old tool still favored for creating smooth finish

Sometimes, you come across an item that really confounds you. You have to scratch your head and turn to others (sometimes the internet) to figure out what it can be.

This item might also confuse you, but if you do not know what it is and you want to learn more about it, then you are in the right place.

The nail punch is a modest tool with origins dating back to ancient civilizations, where building and crafting required innovative ways to manage nails. In its early iterations, craftsmen used rudimentary tools like chisels or hardened stones to drive nails below the surface of wood, achieving a smooth finish essential for decorative or functional purposes.

According to sources, “it is actually believed that these tools might be the first tools our prehistoric ancestors used to carve in wood and stone and create pieces of clothing. Although very simple in their constructions, these tools are highly versatile, which makes them indispensable in any tool collection.”

Also known as a nail set, a nail punch is a small, handheld tool designed to drive nails slightly below the surface of a material, typically wood.

The tool – commonly used for a smooth, finished appearance – features a pointed tip that aligns with the nail head and a blunt end, which is struck with a hammer to push the nail head beneath the surface.

Next, “the small depression remaining is filled in with putty,” according to Britannica.

Sinking nails
The Industrial Revolution brought a wave of innovation to tools and machinery, and the nail punch was no exception. Factories began mass-producing nails, and with them came the necessity for consistent tools that could cater to varying nail sizes and woodworking needs.

Over the years, the simple punch evolved and became a go-to item in every toolbox, allowing carpenters to sink nails below the wood surface with precision. Covering these nail heads with filler not only enhanced the visual appeal but also increased the longevity of the structure by preventing rust and wear.

Modern-day nail punches
Fast forward to the 21st century, the nail punch tool has undergone substantial evolution, embracing modern materials and ergonomic designs. Today, you can find nail punches made from high-carbon steel or titanium, often featuring cushioned grips for comfort during prolonged use.

Key features

Material: Usually made from durable metals like steel or titanium to withstand repeated hammering.
Design: Often cylindrical, with a tapered tip that matches the size of the nail head for precise placement.
Sizes: Available in various sizes to accommodate different nail diameters.
Uses

Aesthetic finishing: It allows nails to be recessed below the surface, enabling wood filler to be applied over the nail for a seamless look.
Prevention of damage: Keeps the hammer from denting or scratching the wood surface during nail placement.
Improved durability: By sinking nails, it protects them from exposure to elements that could lead to rust or wear.
A tool for everyone
Modern nail punches come in sets catering to a wide range of nail diameters. Some even include laser etching for size identification, making them ideal for both hobbyists and seasoned carpenters. Technological advancements have introduced automatic or spring-loaded versions, reducing the physical effort required to sink nails into hard surfaces.

Why it still matters
In an age dominated by power tools, one might wonder if a manual tool like the nail punch still has a place. The answer is a resounding yes!

Its simplicity, reliability, and affordability make it indispensable for tasks requiring precision, such as trim work, cabinetry, and restoration projects.

Whether you’re crafting a delicate jewelry box or building a deck, the nail punch ensures a clean, professional finish. It’s also a favorite among restorers who value traditional methods over contemporary alternatives.

The nail set may not boast the glamour of high-tech gadgets, but its evolution from a simple tool to a sophisticated instrument underscores its importance in construction and woodworking.
