Gwyneth Paltrow is marking her son Moses’ 18th birthday.

The 51-year-old actress commemorated the occasion by sharing a photo of her kid, something she rarely does. Her son’s expression was solemn as he peered into the camera. He donned a navy blue t-shirt.

In the caption, she wrote, “Happy 18th birthday to you, my son. I am so proud of who you are. I love your sensitivity and brilliance and quiet humor.”

She went on to write about her son, saying, “I admire how deep you go into areas that interest you, becoming an expert in synths from the 80’s and the French new wave. I love how much you love the people you love, but also how internal you are.”

She talked more of her pride and joy, concluding her post with, “There is such a magnificent world of ideas and harmonies inside that beautiful head of yours. I am unbelievably proud of the person you are today, as you cross over the threshold into adulthood. I love you more than words can say, @mosesmartin you absolutely kill me. ❤️Mama.”

She has a son, Moses, and a daughter, Apple, with her ex-husband Chris Martin.

Everyone in the comments was taken aback by how closely Moses looked to his father, Chris Martin. One commenter wrote, “He looks more like Chris than Chris does.” Another said, “Mini Chris.” Another commenter remarked, “He totally looks like his Dad.” The young man bears a striking likeness to his father, which everyone notices! The boy appeared so familiar because he bore an amazing likeness to his father.

Last month, the actress spoke openly about her feelings over her son Moses departing for college soon.

“In the fall, Brad [Falchuk] and I have boys that will be going off to university,” Paltrow said, referring to her son Moses and her husband’s son of her son Brody. “It’ll be interesting to see how the morning routine changes with no kids in the house.”

“On the one hand, incredible sadness. A deep sense of impending grief,” the actress shared. “On the other hand, this is exactly what should be happening.”

“Your kids are supposed to be, you know, young adults who can achieve and cope and make connections and be resilient. That’s exactly what you want. And that means they leave the house.”

She shared how she has “been so defined and so fulfilled by motherhood.”

“It’s like the guiding force. It’s what I return to. I observe a lot of my friends who’ve had kids who’ve gone off to college. Your kid…it changes. And you know, they come home a lot and all that stuff, but it’s not quite the same as living under the same roof all the days of the year. So I’m just trying to be open to what that means,” she said.

I Married a Janitor to Spite My Wealthy Dad — When My Dad Came to Speak with My Husband, He Fell to His Knees at His Words

Trapped in her father’s world of wealth and rigid expectations, Anna married a janitor she’d just met on the street. But what started as a rebellion led to unexpected love, family secrets, and a confrontation so intense, it forced her father to his knees in remorse.

I’d spent my entire life under my father’s thumb. He wasn’t cruel, exactly, but to him, everything was a cold, calculated, and profitable business.

In his world, I was an asset, a chess piece in his lifelong game. My future husband? He’d be the “strategic partner” for our family’s gain, not a person to love or laugh with.

“You’ll thank me one day,” he would always say, his voice firm and final. “It’s not about love, dear. It’s about stability. Real love comes from stability, from strength.”

But each year, his words felt heavier. “What’s best” for me seemed like a prison I was being shoved into, without any say. And as I grew older, this feeling only got worse. Every dinner, every conversation circled back to the same theme: my “duty” to the family.

“Anna, you’re our only child. You have a responsibility. Can’t you understand that?” he said one evening over yet another quiet dinner.

One cool autumn afternoon, I couldn’t take it anymore. I stepped out of the house, leaving behind the cold silence that felt more like a tomb than a home, and started walking through the city. I didn’t know where I was going, but I knew I needed to escape, if only for a few hours.

As I turned a corner, I saw him. He was a young man with a slight limp, sweeping leaves off the sidewalk in front of a row of shops.

He moved slowly, carefully, as if each sweep of the broom was part of some quiet ritual. There was something peaceful in the way he worked, like he was part of the city itself.

Without even thinking, I walked over to him.

“Excuse me,” I said, my voice shaking. He looked up, surprised, but didn’t say a word, just waited.

“Hi… I—” I took a breath, steadying myself. “I need a husband. How would you feel about getting married today?”

He raised an eyebrow, looking at me like I’d just stepped out of a different world.

“You serious?” he asked, his voice deep but calm.

“Yes,” I replied, trying to sound steady, but the desperation in my voice slipped through. “It’s not… it’s not what you think. This isn’t about love or anything like that. It’s just… I need to get out of a situation.”

He looked at me, considering. “So, you’re saying… you need a fake husband?”

“Exactly. A business deal.” I swallowed. “Just something to get my father off my back.” I quickly found my father’s photo on my phone and showed it to the janitor. “Here.”

He paused, studying the picture carefully. He frowned, as if he recognized the man. “Name’s Ethan,” he said, his hand outstretched. “You’re really serious about this?”

I nodded. “As serious as I’ll ever be.”

Ethan still looked hesitant, like he was waiting for me to admit this was some joke. “Look, you don’t know me. This could be trouble,” he said, studying me. His eyes had a steady look, grounded, and not unkind.

“It’s just a contract,” I said, trying to reassure him. “I won’t bother you after. You’ll be free to go on with your life.”

For a long moment, he was silent, watching me with an unreadable expression. Finally, he exhaled slowly. “All right,” he said, voice low. “If it gets you out of this mess. Just know, I’m not one to back out once I’m in something.”

I felt a rush of relief I hadn’t expected. “Thank you,” I said, almost breathless. “Thank you, Ethan.”

He gave me a small, knowing smile. “Guess I’ve always been a little crazy. But this—this might just take the cake.”

That afternoon, we went straight to city hall. No white dress, no flowers, just a piece of paper and two strangers signing it together.

When we walked out of that building, Ethan turned to me with a grin. “Well, looks like we’re in this together now.”

Then, reality hit. I’d just married a stranger.

The next few days felt like a whirlwind. Ethan and I settled into a routine that was both strange and strangely comforting.

In his world, life was simple, unhurried, and he showed me things I’d never paid attention to, like how to make breakfast without help, or how to budget for groceries.

When my father found out I’d married, he was livid. He called me every hour, his messages curt, his tone icy. After days of ignoring him, I finally answered the phone.

“What is going on, Anna?” he demanded. “You married someone—a stranger! A janitor! Have you lost your mind?”

“It’s my life, Dad,” I replied, feeling my voice shake.

“You have responsibilities, Anna. Do you think the world is going to respect this… this nonsense? I’ll come by tomorrow. I want to meet this husband of yours.”

“Fine, Dad,” I said, feeling a chill at the thought. But I knew I couldn’t avoid it forever.

The next evening, my father arrived at our small apartment. Dressed in his usual designer suit, he surveyed the space with a look of disgust, glancing at the mismatched furniture and modest decor like it was offensive.

“Anna, are you really staying here?” he asked, turning to me with disappointment.

“This is our home,” I replied, folding my arms. I could feel Ethan’s presence behind me, calm and steady.

Then my father turned to him, looking him up and down. “So, you’re the man who married my daughter,” he said, voice dripping with disdain. “Do you know who she is? Do you have any idea what she’s worth?”

Ethan met his gaze, unfazed. “Yes, sir, I do,” he replied, his voice steady and quiet. “I know she’s more than her last name, or the money attached to it.”

My father scoffed. “Oh, I see. You’ve got all the right lines. It’s clear you’re not in this for love, but for what you can gain.”

“Actually, sir,” Ethan said, standing firm, “I don’t care about your money. Or your status. I care about Anna.”

My father’s face turned red with fury. “You expect me to believe that?” he hissed. “You’re just a janitor—a nobody.”

Ethan didn’t flinch. He looked my father right in the eye. “I may be a janitor,” he replied, “but I know honesty. And respect. I know that Anna deserves more than being treated like a pawn.”

My father’s expression changed, a mix of anger and disbelief. “And what gives you the right to lecture me about respect?”

Ethan took a deep breath. “My last name doesn’t mean anything to you, does it? What if I told you my father’s name was Andrew?” he asked, his voice calm but edged with something sharper.

My father frowned, a flicker of confusion crossing his face. “Andrew?”

“You knew him once,” Ethan continued. “He was a business partner of yours until you forced him out. Took everything he had. He went from owning a company to scrubbing floors. And that’s how I grew up.”

I felt the shock ripple through the room as my father’s face paled. “That can’t be… that was years ago,” he stammered, searching Ethan’s face. “You’re his son?”

Ethan nodded. “He never recovered. But he raised me to be better than bitterness. And here I am.”

My father looked away, his shoulders sagging as if he’d aged in seconds. Then, he suddenly dropped to his knees. “Andrew… he was my friend. I was desperate. It was either him or me, and I had a family. I was doing what I thought I had to. I’m sorry.”

The silence stretched. Finally, my father turned to me, his eyes full of something I’d never seen before. It was regret. “Anna, I never meant for you to get tangled up in this. I thought I was doing the right thing, building a future for you.”

“A future you chose for me,” I replied softly. “But I’m choosing my own now.”

Without another word, my father turned and left, his figure slumped as he walked down the stairs. I watched him go, a strange mixture of sadness and relief settling in my chest.

Days passed. I didn’t hear from my father, but I felt his absence as a weight lifting. Then one evening, there was a knock at the door. To my surprise, it was him, standing awkwardly, looking almost uncertain.

“Ethan,” he said, his voice softer than I’d ever heard it. “I… owe you an apology. Not just for the past, but for now. For everything. I can’t undo what I did to your family, but I can do better for my daughter. I see that now.”

Ethan nodded, accepting the words with quiet dignity. “That’s all anyone can do, sir. We all make mistakes. What matters is what we do after.”

A week later, we all gathered in a small park. Ethan’s father, Andrew, had come to town. My father was nervous, wringing his hands as Andrew approached. The two men stood in silence for a long moment before my father reached out.

“Andrew, I’m sorry. I did things back then that I can’t take back, but I never meant to hurt you.”

Andrew nodded slowly, his face softened by years. “We were both different men then. But it’s never too late to be better.”

They shook hands, a small bridge over years of loss and resentment. I watched as my father and Andrew turned toward us, the past falling away as they embraced a future together as two families, united by the strength it took to forgive.

My Wife Gave Birth to a Baby with Black Skin – When I Found Out Why, I Stayed with Her Forever

By

Brent’s world shattered when his wife, Stephanie, gave birth to a baby whose skin was dark. This sparked sh0ck and accusations. When the nurse handed over the newborn, Stephanie gasped, “That’s not my baby!” Brent, equally stunned, was sh0cked at what he saw: the baby had soft curls and dark skin. “What the hell, Stephanie?” he demanded, feeling betrayed.

Confusion filled the room when Stephanie insisted she hadn’t been cheat!ng. “I never slept with anyone else. Brent, you must believe me,” she pleaded.

Though doubt gnawed at Brent, he noticed something familiar—the baby had his eyes and a dimple on her cheek. He softened, saying, “I’m here. We’ll figure this out together.”

However, Brent needed answers. Brent’s mother urged him to leave Stephanie. After a tense conversation with the mother, he went for a DNA test. Hours of agonizing waiting later, the doctor confirmed, “The test confirms that you are the biological father.” The explanation? Recessive genes from past generations.

Relief and guilt washed over Brent when he returned to Stephanie, who broke down in tears of relief. “I’m so sorry I doubted you,” Brent whispered, holding his family close. “We’ll be okay now.”, Stephanie reassured him.

Brent vowed to protect his family at all costs. No matter what challenges they faced, he would never allow doubt or judgment to come between them again. His trust and love for Stephanie were restored, and the two would face the future together, stronger than ever.

Opinion: Prince Harry & Meghan Markle’s ‘backup plan’ will be revealed if they are kicked out of the country

By

While the U.S. election campaign is happening, one person who is likely awaiting the voting day and the results of the elections is Prince Harry. At the time being, he’s not an American citizen, although he said he considered applying for citizenship in the future.

In case Donald Trump takes the Oval Office again, the prince’s future in the States will be uncertain as Trump has already stated that he won’t protect the Duke and would ask for his visa to be revoked in case it’s determined that he lied when he applied for it.

“I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me,” Trump shared the Express.

In his book Spare, Harry discussed his past with using substances such as coca:ine, …stating that he tried it as a teenager when he felt insecure and still sad because of his mother’s passing.

According to royal experts, the Duke regrets opening up about his history with dru:gs in his all-tell memoir, but he was unaware at the time of writing it that the information he disclosed in it could put him in trouble.

Last year, when applying for certain U.S. visas, applicants must disclose any history of dru:g use, which can lead to their application being denied.

“We’ll have to see if they know something about the drugs, and if he lied they’ll have to take appropriate action,” Trump told GB News in March.

Speaking with The Sun at the Oval Office, Trump said he had never heard Meghan’s words about him.

“I didn’t know that. What can I say? I didn’t know that she was nasty,” he told the magazine.

Therefore, neither Meghan nor Harry were happy with Trump calling her nasty. Later on, Harry was actually attend a lunch at which Trump was also supposed to be present. As the Duke was expected to remain politically neutral, he was supposed to “toe the line” around the US President.

According to Hugo Vickers, the Sussexes have a “backup plan” in case Trump wins the elections.

Trump’s possible decision may also have with his “feud” with Meghan Markle.

“And Trump has stated publicly he won’t forgive Harry. Trump probably thinks ‘I got on well with the Queen’, which he definitely did, and ‘I would like to respect her memory by booting him out.’”

Vickers claimed: “He doesn’t really abide by the rules. To get Harry out, he would stump the table and tell somebody to look into the way you do these things and just fix it. You know that’s the way he is.”

Breaking News: Amber Heard Has Changed Her Name And Moved To A New Continent

By

Amber Heard is reportedly going by a different name and has apparently left America for good.

Heard made headlines amid her highly publicised defamation trial against her ex-husband, Johnny Depp in 2022.

Following the trial’s outcome, which was in Depp’s favour, it appears the actress has made significant changes to her life.

She’s moved to Europe and is ‘able to just be a mom there’. The source shares: “She spends every day with her girl. They stroll around, visit parks and enjoy family time.

People magazine also reports that Heard is ‘working and filming again’ and that she has a ‘new energy’. The actress recently told Deadline she wants to work on indie productions, as well as blockbusters.

“The best luck you can have as an actor is to be able to balance both,” she said.

Heard surprised fans by giving an interview in fluent Spanish.

While standing outside of a property, the London Fields actress was asked by a journalist how she is enjoying her new life.

When asked if she would stay in the country, the star said she hoped so, as she ‘loves’ living there.

Esquire shares  that Heard moved to Mallorca, Spain, before settling down in Madrid.

The publication continues: “While living in Mallorca, Heard changed her name to Martha Jane Cannary, inspired by the western frontierswoman, Calamity Jane.”

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s ‘secret’ date spot everyone has missed

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s love story is one to remember. The pair met while studying at St. Andrew’s University, and despite first being denied permission to live together, things worked out well. They were buddies, but we all know there was more to their relationship at this time.

For Prince William and Kate Middleton, 2024 did not go as planned. The Princess of Wales underwent abdominal surgery before receiving the dreadful news that she had cancer.

She underwent canc3r treatment in February and then disappeared from public life. Meanwhile, Prince William accepted enormous responsibilities as a working member of the Royal Family and, most significantly, as a father and spouse.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s marriage is “stronger than ever”

Although the cancer diagnosis was devastating news, things have happily improved for the family. Kate Middleton made her first public appearance since last year in June, at Trooping the Colour, and she and Prince William appeared happier than ever before.

A few weeks later, the Prince and Princess of Wales shared a new photo on social media in honor of William’s birthday. The couple appeared to be madly in love, and veteran BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond believes William and Kate are stronger together than ever.

Kate Middleton confirmed she is canc3r-free in a touching video.

On September 9, Kate Middleton issued an update on her recovery, informing the public that she is canc3r-free.

In a lovely video of William, Kate, and their children enjoying some quiet time in nature, Kate expressed her “relief” at having completed her chemotherapy tre:atment.

The Princess of Wales stated, “The past nine months have been extremely difficult for us as a family. Life as you know it may change in a moment, and we’ve had to discover a means to navigate the turbulent waters and uncertain path.”

Body language specialist Judi James told the Daily Mail that it demonstrated the “true depth of adoration and love” between the two.

Prince William and Kate Middleton – Date nights

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s love story began at St. Andrews University. The couple became close friends, but when they decided to move in together with some other friends, William was almost denied permission because the university had a no-boys policy. However, everything worked out, and they relocated to 13A Hope Street, an off-campus apartment.

Prince William tried to be romantic; once, he stated that he made dinner for Kate. It was disclosed that “he would always come with a bit of angst and a bit of anger if something had gone wrong,” as well as that she “would have to wander in and save something that was going.”

Where Prince William and Kate Middleton spend their date nights – and no one knows

The pair frequently visits their Norfolk home, Anmer Hall, where they have spent a lot of time in recent years to get away from the spotlight while Kate recovers. They not only appreciate solitude behind the walls of their Norfolk home, but they also feel anonymous among the locals. There, royal admirers may not even recognize that Prince William and Kate Middleton were out in public, having a normal night like everyone else.

“The locals are incredibly protective of them, you don’t often see people get out their camera phones and record them. They are left to just get on with a family occasion,” royal expert Katie Nicholl told OK! in 2021.

Justine Bateman Shuts Down Haters: ‘I Think I Look Rad’ Despite Aging Naturally

It’s so famous that Hollywood stars, especially women, often feel pressure to look young as they get older. We frequently hear about celebrities’ latest cosmetic tre:atments and beauty routines to stay youthful.

Justine Bateman is an actress, director, and writer, widely known for her role as Mallory in the 1980s sitcom *Family Ties*, which she starred in as a teenager.

She also appeared in *Men Behaving Badly* and had recurring roles in shows like *Desperate Housewives* and *Still Standing*. Justine is also the older sister of well-known actor Jason Bateman.

“I just don’t care,” Justine Bateman said in an interview with 60 Minutes Australia.

“I think I look cool. I think my face shows who I am. I like it.”

At 57, Bateman, like many actresses her age, has faced pressure to get plastic surgery. But she’s chosen to embrace her age and avoid any cosmetic procedures.

Bateman started receiving harsh comments about her looks when she was around 40. Some compared her natural aging to a “sea hag” or “meth addict,” and she felt pressured to change her appearance.

“I thought my face looked good,” she shared People in 2021. But these comments made her doubt herself and feel embarrassed about her face.

In her book Face: One Square Foot of Skin, Bateman wrote that she feels “sad” for women who focus heavily on cosmetic changes. “I feel sad they’re not just enjoying life,” she said to 60 Minutes. “I feel sad that they’re so consumed with ‘fixing’ their face instead of focusing on what they’re meant to do in life.”

A huge loss of Snoop Dogg’s family

Snoop Dogg is perhaps among the most popular American rappers and television personalities. He has made his name worldwide and is a household name.

However, many might not know about the musician’s personal life. Beneath his calm exterior, he has seen a lot of pain. But he still finds the joys in life and is quick to celebrate them.

Keep reading to learn more about what the rapper’s family looks like today.

Snoop Dogg was born on October 20, 1971. In 1997, he married Shante Broadus. The couple has three children: Corde, Cordell, and Cori. Snoop has also fathered Julian, his son from another relationship.

His children are all grown up, and Snoop himself, in addition to being a dad, is also a proud grandfather. He lost of a grandchild and still keeps their memory alive. In 2007, Snoop appeared in a reality show titled “Snoop Dogg’s Father Hood,” to show his lesser known side as a family man.

When promoting the show, he said in an interview “I got kids, and I always play my music for them. I like to hear what they like. They think I’m old, but I think I’m young.”

For him fatherhood has been a journey, he said, “Ninety percent of rappers grew up without fathers, but you see ninety percent of those rappers becoming fathers to their kids. We don’t ever get commended for that. We become real men when we get to this level we’re at right now.”

He gave a 2015 interview where he gave himself a humble rating as a father of “about a 7-plus” as a father, and as for his style as a grandfather he said he is a “gullible, get-away-with-everything kind of grandpa.”

He is incredibly sweet when talking about his role of being a grandfather, he shared, “It’s just a spark of joy just to look in his eyes and to be able to hold him. I thank my oldest son for making me a grandfather.”

Earlier this year, he said in an interview for “The Jennifer Hudson Show,” saying how his grandchildren call him “Papa Snoop,” a name his eldest grandson called him first.

“[My grandkids are] different ages, ranges, [and] sizes and I love them all the same way. Actually, my oldest [grandson’s] birthday is today so I’m on my way to his birthday party when I leave here.”, Snoop shared.

He recalled that his eldest grandchild actually called him ‘Papa Noop’ due to the fact that he had a hard time pronouncing ‘Snoop’ at first.

In September 2019, the family faced a huge loss when Snoop’s grandson Kai Love passed away when he was just 10 days old.

At the time, Snoop shared a heartbreaking message that read to signal his feelings about the loss, “If you’re facing something you don’t understand: Choose to trust God. Remember all He has done for you. His ways are higher than ours. He is always good.”

Kai parents were Snoop’s son Corde Broadus, and his wife, Soraya Love. Like Grandpa Snoop, they were also shattered at the loss of their child. On what would have been their late son’s first birthday, the mom of the late child shared an emotional message to Instagram. It read,
“Happy heavenly birthday to my 1st son Kai Love who passed away 9-15-2019,” she wrote in her post, it went on to say, “…I know God used this painful time in our families life, knowing I will use that to help those in need of that knowledge of GOD and SELF [sic].”

She opened up about how her loss had propelled her to immerse herself in a life of wellness, spirituality, and community support.

She wrote in her post, “The pain of losing a child you created in YOUR body is very traumatic feeling that never goes away…since that moment God has guided my steps and shown me a deeper soul purpose…to get close to God, improve your heart health through lifestyle choices, relationship standards, family dynamic, generational curse breaking; food choices, self-love, serving those in need of help mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally [sic].”

The de;at:h inspired the parents to start the “Kai Heart Foundation,” an organization which focuses on spreading love and healing through the power of community.

Soraya shared in a post in March 2024, “we would love to partner with any Organizations that help heal -educate -assist humans with LOVE 🙏🏽this is our soul purpose and want to keep giving back to community in any way we can ♥️[sic].”

In another post she explained what the organization does, “Started Kai Heart Foundation in 2019 after my son Kai passed away at 10 days from heart defect…He inspired me to help other mothers, men, women; children in the world through acts of LOVE + healthy lifestyle [sic].”

Snoop oldest grandchild, Zion Kalvin Broadus, was born in January 2015. He was born to Snoop’s son Corde Broadus and his partner at the time, Jessica Kyzer. Snoop was beyond thrilled at the birth, sharing a video with the caption, “Proud grandad. My son spank n grandson Zion !!🍼🙏🌟✨Jah bless.”

Corde and his wife Soraya Love welcomed their daughter Elleven Love Broadus in 2018.

In 2023, the couple celebrated their daughters fifth birthday with mom posting on Instagram saying, “HAPPY 5th BORN DAY TO MY 1st BORN E11EVEN🤩☺️😍this old soul/young Queen taught me how to be a mom when I didn’t even know how to change a diaper [sic]”

In March 2019, Snoop’s family welcomed Cordoba Journey Broadus.

The young one is already a superstar with her appearance at a Chanel fashion show last year make headilnes. At the event, the little girl wore a sleek black leather jacket paired with a white top that had Chanel’s iconic logo. In 2021, the family welcomed Sky Love Broadus. The baby was born to Corde and Soraya. Snoop’s wife, Shante Broadus, who is referred to as ‘Mama Tae’ by her grandbabies uploaded a video of the newborn on social media with the caption, “I’m So Happy My 5th GrandBaby Boy Was Born Today 💙💙 [sic].”

Additionally, Cordell and Phia welcomed a baby in 2021, Chateau Broadus.

The proud Grandma once again posted on Instagram with the caption, “I Was Down Earlier But She Just Took All Of That Away 😍😍 My 6th GrandBaby Girl #ChateauBroaudus 😍😍 [sic].”

To fulfill their father’s dying wish, two little girls visit his grave on his birthday to show him their adorable outfits. Near the gravestone, they find two beautifully wrapped boxes with their names and have no idea what’s waiting for them.

Isla, 6, and Madison, 8, missed their daddy, Brian. After he went to his heavenly home, they hadn’t stolen cookies and ice cream from the kitchen at night, joined forces to bother their mother, or gone shopping. Because without Daddy Brian, those things were no fun.

“You’re spoiling those girls, Brian!” Brian’s wife, Linda, used to scold him. “Why do y’all gang up against me? I know you steal from the pantry for your little angels!”

“Well, I’ll spoil them for the rest of my life!” Brian would say with a wide grin. “They will always come first for me as long as I live! I’m sorry, honey, but you now have competition. But you know, I adore all my girls—including you,” and hug her.

That’s how Brian was. He would always balance out a situation. He was the perfect family man. But after he passed away, something changed. Isla and Madison became very quiet, and Linda, well, she was struggling to come to terms with his death too.

After all, her last memories of Brian had been nothing but terrible. He died before her very eyes, and she couldn’t help him. Stage four cancer, the doctors had told Linda. They started the treatment the right way and tried their best for Brian, but they lost the battle, and the terrible illness won.

Death cannot break the bonds built with love.

Brian’s health kept deteriorating, and one morning he didn’t wake up. Isla and Madison had slept beside him on the hospital bed the night before. He had asked Linda to leave the girls with him that night. Probably he sensed that was his last night with his little daughters.

“Time of death: 4 a.m. Tuesday…” the doctors declared that morning after Linda called, worried because Brian was not answering his cell phone. The doctors gave her an apologetic glance before they covered his once-smiling face with a white hospital sheet. Brian was gone. He wasn’t coming back, and Linda was devastated.

After Brian’s death, Linda couldn’t pull herself together, no matter how hard she tried. Her girls had been stronger than her. They had at least attended the funeral. Linda couldn’t stand to see him buried under the Earth.

“On my birthday, I want my little girls to look their prettiest, and I’m curious to see what they’ll wear. Do you promise to come to Daddy and show me your beautiful outfits, girls? You see, it’s possible that daddy won’t be with you that day, but you have to promise me you’ll look your best,” was the last thing Brian had said. It was his dying wish that his girls visit him on his birthday.

So the day before, the girls asked Linda to take them out shopping.

“Mommy,” little Isla said. “Daddy loved my red dress. He got me one for my birthday. I want a red dress.”

“You can pick for me, mom,” Madison offered. “I want it to be Dad’s favorite color.”

“I – I don’t think I have the time, girls,” Linda tried avoiding the topic. She was still grieving Brian’s loss. She was not ready for anything resembling closure.

“But we need to visit daddy!” Isla said. “He asked me to wear something beautiful on his birthday. He asked Madison too.”

Linda’s eyes welled up. She was so consumed by grief that she had forgotten Brian’s birthday.

“What did he ask you?” Linda asked, her eyes welling up with tears.

“Daddy wanted to see us in pretty dresses on his birthday. We need to visit him, mommy,” Isla said. “Hurry up! We need to go shopping!”

“When did he ask this?” asked Linda. “I – I didn’t know….” She had no idea about Brian’s dying wish.

“The night before he died, mom,” Madison revealed. “He held our hands and said he wanted to see us in nice outfits on his birthday. Mom, I think we should do this for him. I know you’re upset, but please?” She covered Linda’s ears with her hands. “I know you’re missing dad, but we need to do this for Isla. She misses daddy a lot.”

Madison was always a bright child. She understood things children her age would find hard to comprehend. And she finally convinced Linda to go shopping.

“Alright then,” Linda said. “Let’s get you, girls, the prettiest outfits, so daddy knows what he’s missing by not being with us! He will regret leaving us like this!” Linda said, bursting into tears and her girls hugged her to comfort her.

“Dad doesn’t want to see you sad, mom. I know….” Madison whispered, patting her mom’s back.

The next day, on Brian’s birthday, the little girls wore their new outfits and held hands together as they walked to Brian’s grave. Linda was walking behind them.

Once they were in front of Brian’s gravestone, the little girls noticed two beautifully wrapped boxes with their names on them, and a small sticker on top said it was from Brian.

“Mommy!” Isla turned to Linda and said, “Look, daddy sent us gifts! He is silly! He doesn’t know we should give him gifts on his birthday,” and chuckled.

Madison gave Linda a glance that said she knew Brian couldn’t have sent them that. Dead people don’t send you gifts.

“Well, maybe he was missing his daughters. Go ahead and open the box, girls,” Linda said with an encouraging smile.

As the two girls unwrapped the boxes, Linda had to hide her tears. Isla was grinning with delight while Madison was crying for the first time since Brian’s death.

There was a lovely pair of Mary Janes and a letter from Brian in each box.

“Shoes!” chirped Isla. “They are so pretty, mommy! My favorite color…pink!”

The letter said:

“My prettiest girls,

Some angels here in heaven are surprised to see how girls can be so pretty! They say you are the most beautiful girls God ever created. Daddy can see how beautiful you look in your outfits. But I wanted to make my girls look even prettier, so I bought these shoes for you. I hope you like them.

You see, daddy is not around you, but he is always there in your heart. I know that my girls no longer eat cookies and ice creams. Don’t tell mommy, but I know she’s restocked the pantry with huge cookie boxes. I saw her doing that. Next time you visit me, I want to hear stories about how you stole them successfully behind mommy’s back. Just because daddy isn’t there does not mean we won’t trouble mommy! I want you girls to be happy and smile every day. You don’t always have to be good. I’m sure even mommy doesn’t like that.

And thank you for visiting me and wishing me a happy birthday, girls. Daddy loves you and misses you.

Sending lots of love to my lovely girls,

Brian.”

“Umm…that’s too much for me to read!” Isla complained. “Madison, what did daddy write?”

Madison hugged Elsa tightly. “He said he is happy where he is, Isla, and he wants us to be happy too. He misses us. Thank you for everything, mom,” she added, knowing the boxes were from her. “We appreciate you bringing us here.”

Linda smiled and whispered, “I love both of you,” thanking her girls for helping her step out of the grief and giving her the strength to visit Brian.

What can we learn from this story?

  • Death cannot break the bonds built with love. Brian is far away from his family in the skies, but he is always present inside their hearts.
  • Mothers always put their children first. While Linda was not ready to visit Brian yet, she gathered the courage to do so after seeing how badly her girls wanted to visit their father.
