My ‘Ninja Turtle Baby’ Boy Was Born With a Shell — He’s My Superhero

James McCallum, a toddler from Clearwater, Florida, has a unique condition that earned him the nickname “little Ninja Turtle” from his parents, Kaitlyn and Tim.

This nickname came about because James was born with a rare skin condition that looked like a turtle shell on his back. The couple had no idea their baby had this condition while Kaitlyn was pregnant. Even though they had multiple ultrasounds, none of them showed any sign of what was to come.

Right after James was born, his parents noticed that his back had some strange lumps and scabs. As time passed, the condition began to spread. Eventually, it covered around 75% of his back. The “shell” wasn’t just unusual to look at—it started to affect James’ everyday life. It was uncomfortable for him, and it made it hard for him to sleep. His parents were worried, and doctors weren’t entirely sure what was going on.

To figure out what was happening, James had an MRI scan. The scan was done to make sure that the growth on his back wasn’t spreading inside his body, which could be dangerous. Thankfully, the results showed that the condition was only on his skin and hadn’t grown internally. When James was two and a half months old, he underwent surgery to remove the nevus—the name for the growth on his back. The surgery went well, and after it, his parents were relieved to learn there were no internal problems.

While they were searching for answers and support, Kaitlyn and Tim discovered a Facebook group for families dealing with similar conditions. Through this group, they learned more about possible side effects, like how James might experience itchiness or discomfort as he healed.

The McCallums found a specialist who started a treatment called tissue expansion. This involved injecting saline into James’ back to stretch the skin and slowly replace the affected area.

The process was difficult and required weekly injections, but it has helped James feel more comfortable. His parents are optimistic that by summer, the “shell” on James’ back will be completely removed. For them, making sure James is happy and comfortable is the most important thing, even if some scars remain.

Carrie Underwood and Son Isaiah’s Heartfelt Duet of ‘Little Drummer Boy

Carrie Underwood and her five-year-old son, Isaiah Fisher, created a heartwarming moment with their duet of the holiday classic Little Drummer Boy. Isaiah kicked off the performance with a sweet and endearing first verse, while Carrie lovingly cheered him on from behind the scenes, making it an even more precious moment.

As the second verse began, Carrie joined in, and the duo’s voices harmonized beautifully, culminating in a touching and unforgettable mother-son performance.

When the video was posted on December 14, 2020, it quickly captured the hearts of viewers, garnering over 3 million views and 58,000 likes. Fans flooded the comments, praising the moving rendition.

One fan remarked, “This is hands down the BEST version of the song. Isaiah’s gentle voice truly conveys the spirit of Christ’s birth. I never liked this song before, but now it’s one of my favorites. I listen to it often—it fills me with warmth.”

Another fan shared, “I’m in tears, and my husband asked, ‘What are you watching?’ I took off my earphones, and we both listened to this beautiful child sing with his mom. Thank you for sharing this with us. May God bless your family.”

This version of Little Drummer Boy holds deep personal significance for Carrie, so much so that it inspired the name of her Christmas album. She expressed her love for the song and her desire to create something truly memorable with it.

Another notable track from the album is Hallelujah, a duet with the legendary R&B singer John Legend. Their collaboration brings a remarkable touch to the album, blending their unique voices into a holiday treasure.

The aim of Yoga is self-realization – to fully experience or “realize” one’s true nature.

Hidden beneath the layers of physical and mental activity is a state of quiet awareness. Peace, love, wisdom and happiness can be found here. In the stillness of the inner self, we experience our connectedness to the universe and to God – “Know your self, know God”. This blissful stillness is hidden inside every human being. Few experience it, however, because most of us remain preoccupied with the objects and problems of everyday life. If we want to uncover our true nature, we must learn to quiet, control and ultimately transcend these mundane preoccupations.

There are two traditional definitions of Yoga:

1) The first is “Yogash Cittavrtti Nirodhah”, which means “Suspension of mental tendencies is Yoga”.

This definition tells us that our true self is what remains when the noise and activity of the mind have been suspended or turned off. The waves of mental activity are like curtains which hide our true nature. By calming and ultimately suspending these mental waves, we can uncover our true self.

2) The second definition is “Yogo Samyogo Ityukto Jiivatma Paramatmanaha” which means “Yoga is union between the individual self and the Cosmic Self (God)”.

(Note: Yoga explains that as God is the center of everything, He must also be the center, or “Self”, of every human being. Thus, the individual selves are many, but the Cosmic Self is one).

This definition goes further than merely calming the mind. Here the goal is to unify the small self with the Cosmic Self – or the lower self with the Higher Self. Such oneness is achieved as a result of sustained and loving concentration on the thought of the Cosmic Self. By combining these two traditional definitions, we can conclude that all practices which calm and control the body, calm and control the mind, and help to focus our attention on the Cosmic Self are Yoga.

Mind, body and spirit are inseparably connected. Therefore, it is necessary to integrate physical, mental and spiritual practices in order to achieve self-realization. Yoga practices for developing the body include yoga exercises (Asanas) and diet. Yoga practices for developing the mind include following moral principles, breath control, sense withdrawal and concentration. Yoga practices for developing the spirit include meditation, contemplation, having meaningful interaction with fellow spiritualists and providing serving to others in need.

One of the Eaton Fire Victims Identified – Sister Speaks Out

Aside from sharing what the sister of a deceased Eaton fire victim said about her brother’s death, reports have disclosed the occurrence of other fatalities and the current situation of the California wildfires.

On January 9, 2025, KTLA 5 reported on the death of a 66-year-old man named Victor Shaw, who was identified on Wednesday morning (January 8) as one of the five victims claimed by the Eaton Fire. Tragically, Victor’s family found him lying on the side of the road by their home, with a garden hose in his hand.

The fire victim’s loved ones also confirmed that Victor lost his life attempting to defend their home against the flames.

Adding another layer of sorrow is the fact that Victor’s sister, Shari Shaw, who he had been living with, had tried to get her brother to evacuate with her on the evening of January 7, as the fire got closer to their location.

Reportedly, Victor, whose loved ones say he had health issues impacting his mobility, had told Shari he wanted to stay behind to try to combat the fire when she was running out the door.

Providing a first-person account of the moment to the news outlet, Shari divulged, “When I went back in and yelled out his name, he didn’t reply back, and I had to get out because the embers were so big and flying like a firestorm – I had to save myself. And I looked behind me, and the house was starting to go up in flames, and I had to leave.”

Al Tanner, a family friend, said they found Victor’s charred body the following morning. According to Al, “It looks like he was trying to save the home that his parents had for almost 55 years.”

Expressing her devastation to KTLA 5, Shari said she “fell to the ground” upon learning of her brother’s death, and noted how she was even unable to look at him. “They just told me that he was lying on the ground and that he looked serene, as if he was at peace,” added the bereaved sister.

Victor’s body was still left on his family’s property in the 3000 block of Montrose Avenue on Wednesday evening due to unsafe conditions prohibiting the coroner’s office from retrieving him.

The cause of the 10,600-acre Eaton Fire that claimed Victor’s life has remained under investigation since Thursday morning (January 9), and is one of many active and large wildfires to erupt in the Los Angeles area.

According to KTLA 5, the Palisades Fire is the largest of the lot, spanning a whopping 17,234 acres and having destroyed approximately 1,000 structures.

Meanwhile, the 855-acre Hurst Fire ravaged the Los Angeles neighborhood of Sylmar, while the Lidia Fire damaged at least 348 acres in the Antelope Valley, forcing evacuations as well.

Outside of the aforementioned four, another fire called the Sunset Fire (43 acres) forced rapid evacuations in the Hollywood Hills. However, first responders have managed to make progress concerning relief and rescue efforts for this fire.

Regarding the current status of the active wildfires in Los Angeles (L.A.), the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) shared an update on the department’s website.

All appear to have increased in acreage — the Palisades fire is now 19,978 acres with a containment level of 6%; Eaton now spans 13,690 acres with 0% containment; Hurst’s acreage is 771 with 37% containment, and Lidia sits at a containment level of 75%, spanning 394 acres.

Additionally, CAL FIRE has listed information on another one called the Kenneth Fire, which spans 960 acres and has a containment level of 0%.

“Following recent rainfall that has moderated fire activity, CAL FIRE is transitioning to Winter Preparedness staffing levels statewide. This adjustment aligns with a seasonal decrease in fire activity and aims to strategically optimize resources as fire risks lessen during the cooler months,” reports the department.

They also acknowledge that while California has experienced “a higher-than-usual number of fires this year,” the total acreage burned is still slightly below the five-year average. However, CAL FIRE admits that this figure has exceeded the figures of last year (2024).

Additionally, the department forecasts that below-normal precipitation and above-average temperatures will persist through February 2025, which, unfortunately, will sustain an elevated risk of fires, especially in Southern California.

Adding more fuel to the fire is the increased frequency of offshore winds, which have the potential to exacerbate fire concerns in specific locations.

While the forecast remains grim, CAL FIRE says an active Jet Stream is expected to bring moist and cool conditions over the next several months, which will encourage snow and lowland vegetation in higher elevations.

“These conditions, combined with a shift toward greener fuels, are expected to lower the potential for significant fires over the next 2-3 months,” explains CAL Fire. However, Southern California remains an outlier, as some heightened fire risk may persist.

Despite these seasonal changes and forecasts, the department makes its commitment to remain vigilant and be prepared to respond to issues clear. Currently, there are 13,926 total emergency responses for 92 wildfires that have damaged over 10,000 structures.

“The resources that CAL FIRE staffs year-round will spend these months engaged in fuel reduction projects and other fire prevention efforts as weather permits,” adds the department. It should also be noted that the aforementioned stats and the status of the fires are subject to change as the situation develops.

Although CAL FIRE and first responders continue to do their best to combat the wildfires, several lives have already been claimed by the destruction. Like Victor, others are believed to be dead, as news outlets report that at least ten people have lost their lives to the fires.

The L.A. County sheriff said he expects the death toll to rise, as officials scramble to contain the flames of the unruly fires exacerbated by dry and windy conditions.

As reported by ABC News, “Thousands of firefighters are battling at least five sprawling wildfires spread around the Los Angeles area […] More than 180,000 people have been ordered to evacuate as the infernos spread.”

They also shared that President Joe Biden approved a major federal disaster declaration for Los Angeles County on Wednesday (January 8).

Additionally, CNN reports that Homicide investigators have not yet had the opportunity to process any of the death scenes, as dangerous conditions, such as spot fires, leaking gas, and downed power lines prohibit them from doing so.

On the matter, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department explained, “Once Homicide investigators can assess the scenes, more information will be provided.”

Regarding the number of reported deaths, Sheriff Robert Luna admitted, “Frankly, we don’t know yet,” referencing the ambiguity surrounding the accurate death toll.

At this time, we extend our deepest condolences to Shari, the rest of the Shaw family, their other loved ones, and friends, and others who have suffered losses during this incredibly challenging time.

TV host and cookbook author Sandra Lee confirmed that her Malibu home was destroyed by the wildfires. In a soul-stirring Instagram reel, she thanked her followers for their well wishes but shared the overwhelming sadness of losing her home.

“I don’t have a home anymore. My house is gone. It’s literally gone,” she said tearfully. “I’ve been crying all night. Thank God everybody is safe.”

Lee, who stayed at a hotel after the destruction, admitted she was struggling to process the loss. “I don’t know what to say, I don’t know how to compartmentalize this, I don’t know what to do. All my stuff, all the last five years of my life. The only thing I can do is go to work, and I’m going to go to work today,” she expressed, choking up.

In a caption accompanying the video, Lee shared her gratitude for the firefighters and first responders. “My house is gone – I cried all night and thought about every room, nook, and cranny. It was perfection and now it’s just Ash [sic].”

Before the fire reached her home, Lee posted an emotional message reflecting on what her Malibu house meant to her. “My home in Malibu has got me through some of the darkest moments in my life. I have loved creating it, embellishing it, building it, caring for it, and protecting it,” she wrote.

As the fire approached, she called on her community to stay connected, “I am sad but I am sending all my love to all the first responders and firefighters who are literally giving it all they’ve got to keep us safe!!!”

From destroyed homes to emotional evacuations, the toll of the fires has been devastating for many well-known figures. Melissa Rivers, daughter of the late Joan Rivers, shared a poignant account of what she managed to save before her house was destroyed by the fires.

According to a post by journalist Kaitlan Collins on X, Rivers said she grabbed the necessities and “my mom’s Emmy, a photo of my dad and a drawing my mother had done of me and my son…I went for a drawing of my mother’s rather than a photo, because I know I can find the photos.”

Canadian actor and TV host Cameron Mathison revealed on Instagram that his family home was fully destroyed by the wildfires. “We are safe,” Mathison wrote. “But this is what’s left of our beautiful home. Our home where our kids were raised and where they wanted to raise their own someday.”

The star expressed gratitude to those who reached out to check on his family, sending prayers to others affected by the tragedy.

English actress Kate Beckinsale also took to Instagram to share her heartbreak after evacuating her home in the Pacific Palisades. Beckinsale, who lived there for much of her daughter’s childhood, expressed grief over the destruction of the community she cherished.

“Hearing the winds last night, I prayed. I knew it would be bad,” she noted. “We had to evacuate many times during our life there – but the shock at the whole of the Palisades being destroyed is unthinkably horrific.”

Beckinsale described the loss of her daughter’s primary school, favorite shops, and many friends’ homes. “I’m weeping for all of the people and pets involved,” she expressed, adding that she is heartbroken for the families who have lost everything. Beckinsale also offered shelter to anyone in need, asking them to contact her via Instagram.

Veteran actor James Woods shared a message on X, letting concerned fans know that he and his family are unharmed. “To all the wonderful people who’ve reached out to us, thank you for being so concerned,” Woods penned. “Just letting you know that we were able to evacuate successfully.”

The Palisades Fire, the largest and most destructive of the four active wildfires, is expected to become the costliest wildfire in history, according to climate scientist Daniel Swain from the University of California, Los Angeles.

“It is plausible that the Palisades Fire, in particular, will become the costliest on record period, not just in California, but in general,” Swain noted, emphasizing the unprecedented destruction. This fire alone has already claimed a record number of homes and businesses, further exacerbating the devastation.

‘Disrespectful’: Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood’s Performance at Jimmy Carter’s Funeral Caused a Stir – Vid

Jimmy Carter’s memorial service was held on January 9, 2025, at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. He died aged 100 and was the longest-living former president in US history.

The performance by Garth Brooks and his wife, Trisha Yearwood at Jimmy Carter’s funeral sparked an uproar, with many fans criticizing the choice of song. They specifically called out the lyrics they found inappropriate for a church setting and a Christian funeral.

Brooks and Yearwood, who were close friends of Carter, sang a rendition of John Lennon’s 1971 track “Imagine,” at the Democrat’s funeral. Their performance caused quite a stir online, with many fans voicing their opinions on the choice of song.

The firestorm on social media largely revolved around the song’s lyrical rejection of religion. One of the most dividing verses sings, “Imagine there’s no heaven, It’s easy if you try, No hell below us, Above us only sky.” Fans didn’t love the idea of having these words sung in a church setting as they challenged the very values of the Christian funeral.

One fan expressed their disbelief, “Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood sing Imagine at a highly Christian funeral?!! How awful. Imagine there’s no Heaven?? [sic].”

Another triggered fan criticized this decision, “Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are performing ‘Imagine’ at Jimmy Carter’s funeral. ‘Imagine there’s no heaven…’ ‘And no religion too …’ I gotta wonder—who planned this? There’s no worse song to sing at a funeral, except maybe ‘Highway to Hell.’ Sad. Pitiful, really [sic].”

Others took a hit at the song directly, writing“Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Singing the worst song ever written. ‘Imagine’ there’s no heaven. It’s easy if you try. No thank you. What kind of funeral song is that?! [sic]” More users questioned the song’s appropriateness, “Why would you sing this song at a Christian funeral? Weird.”

Others were more direct in their disapproval, calling it the “most insulting song that could be played at a Christian funeral.” One user pointed out Carter’s strong faith, “Carter was a devout Christian and that song was absolutely tone-deaf to sing at his funeral.” Another individual agreed“Inappropriate song for a devout Christian funeral.”

The setting was targeted, with one fan noting“Sung in a historic cathedral…🤔. Bet Jimmy was rolling over in that coffin. 🙃” while another simply expressed disgust, “Yikes 😳.” Some considered it shameful, penning“disgraceful.”

Another fan concurred“That is a truly inappropriate choice of material. If Brooks chose that he should be ashamed. If someone asked for it he should have politely declined.” Others felt the performance wasn’t great, with one saying“He should have rehearsed.”

One user was conflicted, writing“This is a beautiful performance. The choice of this song is disrespectful to Carter’s memory.”

On the other hand, a few fans were more forgiving of the performance, with one stating, “It was absolutely amazing and beautiful hearing those 2 sing.” A fan, who also didn’t agree with the backlash, swooned, “Garth Brooks & Trisha Yearwood singing John Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ at the Jimmy Carter funeral was one of most beautiful pieces of music I’ve ever heard [sic].”

Garth Brooks and Yearwood performed the song because it was one of Jimmy Carter’s all-time favorites. In a past interview, Carter had been asked what his favorite Beatles song was and he answered, “My favorite is ‘Imagine.’ When I go to a strange country, Cuba and other places, in some of those nations, ‘Imagine’ has become a national anthem.”

Carter gushed about his appreciation for “Imagine,” noting its significance and widespread appeal. He shared that on a trip to Havana, one will see Lennon’s statue. He remarked that such places “always play ‘Imagine,’ and it’s one of my favorites just personally.”

Carter also reflected on how the song critiques aspects such as religion, national boundaries, nationalism, and jingoism. Yet, he acknowledged its profound impact, emphasizing its ability to resonate deeply with audiences worldwide.

Hence, “Imagine” by Lennon became a meaningful way for Brooks and Yearwood to honor their friend. Following his passing, Brooks shared a tribute on Instagram, “President Carter, the legacy you and Rosalynn have left us is as beautiful as the life you lived.”

Brooks expressed his gratitude to Carter and his late wife, Rosalynn Carter, for their lifetime of service to both the country and the world. He acknowledged how they inspired everyone not only through their words but also through their actions.

Trisha Yearwood also wrote a touching message on her Instagram account, “Rest easy, Mr. President. I’m sad for us, and happy for you. Your and Mrs. Rosalynn’s legacy of love will live forever. ♥️”

Brooks and Yearwood, actively participated in Carter’s projects, particularly with Habitat for Humanity. They shared their experience of working on the Carter Work Project for 2024 on Instagram. The 2024 Carter Work Project united a diverse group of volunteers, homeowners, and supporters to repair and renovate more than 4,447 homes in 14 countries.

The couple were grateful to be involved in this project. Brooks emphasized the importance of their involvement, adding that while they showed up to contribute, they left with far more than they gave. “As they say, Home is the key and love never quits!” wrote Brooks.

When Carter turned 100 in 2024, Brooks and his wife commended him for the work he had done in building homes, “Your work has impacted the world and your heart continues to change lives, ours included.”

The couple added, “Thank you for inspiring all of us to give more and love more! It’s an honor to be your friend. love, Garth and Trisha.”

Even while Carter was in hospice in 2024, Yearwood reflected on how his enduring legacy of service continued to inspire the volunteers of his projects. She emphasized that while he couldn’t physically participate, Carter and his wife’s presence was strongly felt during the project. “We’re just two volunteers, but everybody who’s on this site feels that responsibility to make them proud,” she shared.

Yearwood noted that she and Brooks strive to be great teammates like Carter and his wife were. She also divulged that she wasn’t surprised by the former president’s longevity. She recalled how, even at the age of 90, her friend was already planning what he would accomplish in the next 20 years.

Brooks also chimed in, “We all bet that he was going to be around a long time and he has not let any of us down or disappointed any of us. The fact that he was there for Ms. Rosalynn’s funeral was very touching.”
