Iconic Model Georgina Cooper Passes Away While on Honeymoon
Georgina Cooper, the famous 1990s supermodel known for her iconic gap-toothed smile, has passed away while on her honeymoon in Greece. She was only 46 years old.
Tragedy struck during what should have been a joyful time for Georgina Cooper and her husband, Nigel. Friends Jade Parfitt and Erin O’Connor shared the sad news of Georgina’s death on social media on Thursday, November 8. According to the Daily Mail, Georgina died due to complications related to long COVID.
Georgina was in Greece on the island of Kos with her new husband, just months after their wedding, when their honeymoon turned into a nightmare. She became seriously ill and was taken to the island’s hospital.
Due to the seriousness of her illness, she was flown by helicopter to Crete for more advanced care. Sadly, after five days in intensive care, Georgina passed away, leaving her family and friends devastated.
“Georgina had been unwell during COVID and had developed some health problems, often being in and out of hospital. But she had big plans for the future. She had just married and was looking forward to her life. Everyone is heartbroken. She was a true superstar,” said her former agent, Dean Goodman, in a statement to the Daily Mail.
Although Georgina received medical treatment after falling ill, she tragically passed away at the age of 46. While the exact cause of death has not been confirmed, reports suggest that a brain hemorrhage, possibly related to long COVID complications, may have been a factor.
Georgina Cooper was a standout figure in the ’90s and 2000s fashion scene. She started modeling at just 13 years old and rose to fame two years later in Bon Jovi’s music video. She quickly became known for her signature gap-toothed smile.
“I was so young at the time, I didn’t fully understand how influential the work we were doing was until I got older and people would compliment me on it,” she said in Corinne Day’s documentary Diary, according to WWD.
Georgina appeared on the covers of major magazines like The Face, and her positive attitude and unique look made her a beloved figure in the fashion world, leaving a lasting impact on the industry.
Her close friends and colleagues mourn her loss deeply. Fellow model Jade Parfitt posted on Instagram, “One of the funniest, most beautiful friends. We all wanted to hang out with George backstage. Sending so much love to her son, family, and friends. Gone too soon.”
Erin O’Connor also paid tribute, saying, “You were incredibly kind and funny, Georgina. We all admired and loved you for your warmth, generosity, and gentle mischief. You always stayed true to yourself.”
In her final years, Georgina moved away from the modeling world and focused on a more grounded life, working as a midwife and in the hospitality industry. After giving birth to her son, Sonny, she decided to leave modeling to focus on her family instead.
“I tried to continue modeling, but it broke my heart when I had to leave him for work. I decided that Sonny came first,” she told The Cultural Omnivore.
Georgina and her partner dreamed of opening a bar in Kos, where they had family, but those plans were tragically cut short. Her legacy lives on through her loving family and the warmth she brought to everyone around her.
She is survived by her husband and son.
