Authorities confirmed that Aline Tamara Moreira de Amorim, 37, and Beatriz Tavares da Silva Faria, 27, died after the yacht they were on capsized near Devil’s Throat, a coastal area known for its rugged beauty, last month.
The two women were enjoying a day out on the sea in Brazil with a larger group, taking selfies and savoring the scenic experience.
Sao Vincente police commissioner Marcos Alexandre Alfino shared with the media that some passengers opted not to wear lifejackets, reportedly because they felt the jackets would interfere with their photos.
The skipper of the boat, whose identity has not been disclosed, has been cooperating fully with the authorities, providing detailed accounts of what happened.
He reportedly made every effort to try and rescue the influencers when the boat began to sink.
Other survivors included Vanessa Audrey da Silva, Camila Alves de Carvalho, Daniel Goncalves Ferreira, Gabriela Santos Lima, and Natan Cardoso Soares da Silva, who managed to survive the devastating incident.
According to reports, on September 29, a powerful wave struck the boat, causing it to sink under the combined weight of the passengers.
However, Aline’s body wasn’t located until a week later when it washed up on Itaquitanduva Beach.
Authorities are now examining whether this tragic incident could have been avoided.
Aline was a mother to a young child and was unable to swim. Her last post on social media was taken on the very boat that would later sink.
Vanessa, a fellow influencer who survived, later shared with local reporters that the group had gathered for a party on a luxury yacht, where they spent time drinking and celebrating.
