Dad Endures Severe Injuries Saving His Daughters From Burning House

We have heard stories about superheroes rescuing people from accidents or burning homes, but can you imagine it being your own dad?

Yes! You read it correctly, your father.

The story that we are going to tell you is about a superhero, better known as Ray Lucas, who rushed into a burning house to save his twins.

The Story About The Dad And The Burning House

Ray Lucas and his girlfriend, Shi’Ann Brown had gone to visit the corner store to pick up some milk, on the 17th of July, and were extremely panic-struck when they came back home. Their house in Michigan was engulfed in flames while his twin daughters were trapped inside.

Shi’Ann saw the scene and broke down. She kept panicking in the front yard in Eastpointe and was doing her best to ask for some assistance. Take a look at the interview:

Lucas, who is 23, told his story, “I was speechless. Action took over me. I ran into the house to get my babies. I’m looking at it as a father. I did anything that any other father would do or should do.

The fire had spread through the three floors and had almost reached the basement where Malaysia and Milan were resting. The babies were in their cribs. Lucas added that he was not sure if the Fire Department would reach there in time and chose to take matters into his own hands.

Ray Lucas Jumped Into The Fire

Ray plunged into the burning house and realized that nothing was visible due to the flames. Thankfully, he knew his way around his house and headed straight to the basement.

He reached their cribs and touched his twins and was elated to see them respond to his contact.

One of the twins was lying down while the other was standing up in the crib, quietly. Ray believes that the girls were in shock because they were surrounded by fire and smoke.

Ray wasted no time and grabbed his children. He held his babies against his chest to protect them from the blaze and made his way up and outside. The smoke and fire were great obstacles but he could easily retrace his steps in the inferno.

The brave dad handed his daughters over to his mother and realized that his niece was also trapped in the house. Lucas ran back inside the house to look for her but found no signs of her. He ran straight to the backyard and saw her through the second-story window. Lucas ordered her to jump through the window and caught her with his bare hands.

I was ecstatic my babies were OK and everybody was able to walk away from the situation. We didn’t lose anyone,” Lucas said.

The Brave Dad’s Heroism Had Its Toll

The dad and his twins suffered serious burns.

My arms burned, both ears burned, right side of face burned, and my neck was burned,” Lucas said.

Lucas suffered from second and third-degree burns and had turned blind for three days. His corneas were completely damaged and had swelled up due to the high exposure to smoke.

Doctors told him that he might not get back his vision but, thankfully,  he has done so.

My vision I feel is back to normal, it could be better.

Lucas has regained his eyesight but his extreme burns have prevented him from performing day-to-day activities.

The twins, Malaysia and Milan had also sustained serious burns. They were taken to the Children’s Hospital of Michigan in Detroit and treated in the intensive care unit.

Milan suffered from second and third-degree burns on the back of her legs and also on her feet. Malaysia sustained second to third-degree burns on her eyes, arms, and cheeks. She needs to undergo exercise and physical training to get back the mobility in her arms and to loosen her joints.

Lucas and his twins had to spend 5 days in the ICU. The doctors told him that burns would go away in time as long as he took the right precautions.

Lucas was hurt physically because of the burns and stated that he is “mentally in pain with burns. It was a lot on me mentally. I’ve never been in a situation like that before.

The Fire Has Cost Them Their Home And All Their Possessions

The family has lost their home and their possessions.

The cause of the fire is still being investigated. Lucas suspects that the foundation of the house was in ruins which is why it caught on fire.

The house didn’t burn all the way down, but it’s a lost cause. Everyone’s possessions were gone from smoke damage or flames.

The medical bills were quite expensive, additionally. Lucas and his family had moved to Detroit with his family and were still sorting out their living situation.

It’s still not real to me… the situation is still so surreal to me,” Lucas said.

The community in Detroit has rallied to their cause and has created a GoFundMe page to help them rebuild their lives. The initial goal was set at $40,000. Currently, more than 8,000 people have donated to this cause which has raised more than $286,000.

Let us hope that Ray Lucas and his beautiful twins can rebuild their home again and get their normal lives back.
